Large Scale Central

Needed a mini holiday

A week ago we got up really early to catch VIA #2 aka The Canadian (EB) out of Kamloops, BC.

40 hours later and 1300+ miles / 2100 km to the East we got off at Winnipeg.

Average of 32.5 mph certainly doesn’t break any records, but I sure wonder how VIA puts up with all the shi…ne that CN Rail dishes up?

Except for sleeping we were either in the dome/observation car at the tail end or the dome car about five cars forward of the tail end

Total number of cars: 23

32.5 MPH? That’s not much better then passengers in the 1880’s would expect.

Actually it’s an indication of how much time we spent sitting on sidings waiting for more freight to pass.

Some more time was spent servicing the train at regular intervals, including cleaning the windows. The service stops we didn’t mind, it went along with the very good service on board The Canadian.

OTOH CN Rail’s RTC having some peculiar habits was less welcome.
