The one pictured above is the only diesel I scratchbuilt. The RS-3-looking loco is probably the NW-2 that was commercially made in the mid 80s, though I don’t remember who made it. Wood frame with an aluminum wrapper, and NWSL trucks. That was a simple repaint. Dad’s partial to the NW-2s as his grandfather used to ride them as a brakeman on the B&O. I did at one point build new end platforms on it after it got in a wreck. (Literally–it was in the back of my car when I fell asleep behind the wheel. I try not to do that anymore.) That happened right before the '92 garden railway convention. The loco still ran, even with mangled front and rear ends, so I hung “Operation Lifesaver” signs on the sides of the hood for when we were on tour. Can’t say my car fared as well.
I kitbashed one from an LGB 4-wheel switcher, and truth be told, I’d love to re-bash that one, as I found the perfect EBT-related prototype. One of the brick refractories had a 4-wheel switcher that’s just screaming to be modeled. They also had a neat 0-6-0 which is on my list of possibilities.
It’s just one more project on the list, right?
I’m leaning towards Playmobil for Suzi. They still have their R/C train sets, which should run well on my railroad. (I tried to convince Allison that Suzi needed a K-27.)
