Need help identifying who made this A.W. Nuts steampunk model

Need help identifying who made this. At Train Shack in Burbank to pick up some basswood, saw this is the display. The shop owner said it was on consignment but the original owner didn’t know who made it. It’s definitely from the A.W. Nuts era. Hoping someone will recognize it. It’s a really fun steam punk model. It’s a track cleaner B.T.W.

Blockquote

Oh, interesting. I feel like I’ve seen it before. I wonder if it was ever in GR?

No clue if it was ever in GR. I remember the AW Nuts crowd around here was big in the 80 or 90s but dropped off when the magazine folded.

Sure reminds me of Chris Walas’ creations, only a bit more colorful and clean.

Cliff;

I seem to remember that Chris once made a locomotive from his wife’s discarded (at least I hope so) travel iron. I think it had something to do with the Lemurian civilization he created.

Best, David Meashey

Not Chris, I posted it on his FB group, he doesn’t know either. I posted also on MLS, a few of west coast old timers from the A.W. Nutz Rusty Boat era are still active, maybe one of them will recognize it.

That sure is a neat steam punkish AWW NUTZ creation.
It looks to be powered by a LGB block.
I wonder if it blows bubbles as it runs down the track?

Subject for next years Mik’s build!!! :smile_cat:
Hope Dave is checking this thread.

Boomer;

Guess I’ll have to figure out how to “power up” the Loughbrau Trollish Punch car!

Have fun, David Meashey

Me too and I think it might have been but I’m not sure.
It looks like the blind driver /wheel on the middle unit is a ceiling fan light escutcheon.

Who Me? Twenty characters…

Yep, Lemurian war train, he did another a couple years ago.

did you mean this one?

I am pretty familiar with the AWNUTS stuff, seeing many in person, and that one does not ring any bells either from the magazine or personal experience.

Gary Woolard (The Railroad Hobo) would be the AWNUTS specialist, and may even have a few of their pieces.

That’s one of them :+1:

Bruce Bates (passed) was one of their creators.

i think, he made this one at the same time as he made his djungle-temple complex.

Thanks, I’m still trading Christmas cards with Gary and Carla, I’ll check MLS to see if he’s still active there. His last post here was in '23. If not I will have to send them a letter :astonished: and see if he recognizes it.

I’ve honestly been stewing over this. Again, I agree with BD that I have seen it before and I truly think it was in GR mag. “When” I don’t know !
I could fly out west just to kick your ass Vic …it’s been bothering me and I wanna know the answer!!

Not that I care …
:rooster:

I emailed Gary, if he doesn’t respond or does but doesn’t know, I’ll chalk it up to being another anonymous model for the collection.
