I saw this model advertised as a built-up Hartford kit of a work caboose on the Caboose Hobbies web site. No picture or information other than “painted, unlettered.” Being somewhat adventurous, I pulled the trigger and bought it sight unseen. It just arrived this evening. Anyone recognize the kit or have any idea who might have assembled it? I think it will look good behind a logging train on my CC&R branch line.
Whilst the model has a lot of character , I would doubt the provenance of its being a Hartford kit .
Certain aspects of it could well be Hartford , such as the castings and trucks .
I am not criticising your model , it certainly looks the part for your logging line , the distressing of the model has been done extremely well . It’s just that I bought a shedload of Hartford stuff and you get to recognise the sheer artistry of it .
I hesitated before posting this , I really do not want to cast a shadow over what is a very good buy , but I do get a bit irritated by some scratch builders who claim their model to be by a sought-after company ; I can only assume that they do it in order to sell it at a better price .
I hope you get a lot of fun out of it Bob , it does have a ring of realism about it , and it would do well on any layout
Mike
You could email Bob Hartford and ask if he ever made a kit like it. My memory says he did. . .
That’s not any kit I’ve ever seen. Doesn’t look like typical Hartford build though. I bet its scratchbuilt in plywood
