Need Help: 4-2-4T Engine

Does anyone know of a large scale model (or model kits!!) of an American 2-4-2T 4-2-4T steam engine such as the C. P. Huntington? Something similar would also be okay. I cannot find much in the time I’ve spent looking.

If nothing else, I did find reference drawings at the museum. So, I could scratch build, if I need to.
Edit: I also found this webpage with detailed drawings of the engine.

BONUS!
A photo of the C.P. Huntington at the CSRM that I took two weeks ago.

John, I’ve not seen a 4-2-4T (which is what you meant, right?) in large scale, would love to get one if they existed.

Nice find on the drawings, and it would be great if you dug in!

John;

A few decades ago Bachmann made a 2-4-2T, but it was from a British narrow-gauge railway. I suppose if you were lucky enough to locate that locomotive, you could try to “Americanize” with parts from the detail suppliers (or 3D printed items).

Regards, David Meashey

P.S. Just realized the C. P, Huntington is really a 4-2-4T.

Check out MylargeScale Masterclass forum. There are many pdf files to build a CP Huntington.

Opss. I wrote it backwards… Fixed!!

Thanks, Don! I’ll have a look for those files.

@Cliff_Jennings , If I come up with something, I’ll let you know! Every time I saw a V&T loco or car at CSRM, I thought of you.

Thanks for the suggestion, Don. Unfortunately, it looks like the relevant links no longer work.

I found the same. A number of folks have bemoaned the loss of a particularly excellent CPH build log.

John;

I think Delton Locomotive Works actually had made a C. P. Huntington locomotive back in the 1990s. It was mostly painted brass, so $$$ if you can locate one. Also, Delton products were 1:24 scale - might look a bit small alongside current equipment.

Just a thought, David Meashey

P.S. FOUND IT! It was actually in the 1987 Delton catalog. Priced at $2000.00 in 1987! I’m afraid it would probably fetch triple that now.

Woah. That’s crazy! I’ll keep doing research, but I have started scaling down and drawing a mock-up of the engine.
Thanks for looking for me, Dave!

There is a guy on Etsy producing laser cut kits. (Static display)

John, here’s an LSC build thread on the CPH, some pics are available, others not.

The builder got it operational, though I’m not sure how far he took it after that.

It worked for me.
Mini-MasterClass 2005 - “THE SINGLES” - Build a Classic American 4-2-4T Locomotive By David Fletcher

Dwight moved all the files to his personal website, and Norton doesn’t like it when you try to open one of the links.

I just ignore it and click the ‘allow download’.
Then you get a Zip folder, so right-click and ‘extract all’

I did some work on the Kalamazoo 4-4-0s a couple of years ago,

and ended up with a 0-2-0. (Let me know if you want better pics.)

I kept it, as I realised that the MLS Masterclass used a lot of parts from Hartland.

From what I recall, my loco has a motor and everything in it, though I think I’d add wheel pickups on the leading and trailing trucks.

It doesn’t seem likely that I’ll ever get around to it, so it is available if anyone wants it?

I also realized I had the Masterclass documents but not unzipped, so I enjoyed glancing through them. Here’s the photo from the Masterclass.

Thanks, Pete! I got them to download finally. Chrome seems to have been blocking the pop-up download. There’s a lot here! I’ll look at it another day, when I’ve got more time.

Not masterclass just a scratchbuilt with a little help from the model manufactures so that’s how you gotta think John.

An 0-2-2-0?

According to historic documentation they considered it (back in the day in the hood) as a 040T where as the Pioneer was considered a 222T.
