Need better trucks

I just completed an Ozark boxcar kit after finishing an Ozark flatcar kit. The soft metal trucks that come with these are less than desireable in my opinion. Neither of the 2 cars can make it through any of my switches without detailing. In order to run them I need to keep them on the outer loop. Can anyone recommend better trucks to use?

Yes, DELRON Sprung trucks are vary good! However you must buy them from Aristo Carft! You will need to replace the wheels and Axles with steel wheels.

Or buy em on eBay from con49079 for $4.99 / pair without couplers, wheels or springs. Current auction is item #290621347800. I’ve bought from this seller and he is reputable.

He also has them in his store for $25 box of 10 (5 Pair)

Or get them from Phil with good steel wheels.

R&K the sponsor in the track forum has some great trucks. Come with steel wheels and roller bearings. I’ve seen them at Marty’s and they are really great. Rodney is a great machinist.

Try checking the back-to-back spacing on your wheelsets. The problem may not be the “Trucks”, but is likely to be the wheel gauge. After checking that…try checking the gauge of the track through the switches. Don’t forget the check gauge of the guard rails…Aristo WR switches are noted for having wide gauge through their guard rails. It doesn’t matter how great the wheel sets are, if they are out of guage. Believe it or not; Aristo track guages are to NMRA standards…their track and switches in many cases, are not. (In case you use Aristo track)

Some people make the statement: “We don’t need (Or want) any bloody standards”…the fact is; without “Standards” of wheel guage, and track guage, you will always be having derailment problems.
Some of the most popular makes of Large Scale model railroad equipment, have the worst record for out of guage wheelsets…even less than a 1/32" in wheel guage can make the difference whether a car derails or not.

These are not metal correct?

Not metal. And no springs or wheels.

Phils have Sierra Valley metal wheel sets and springs.

Fr Fred has the right idea. Ozark miniatures sells Sierra Vally wheels and i would bet dollars to doughnuts that is what came with your trucks. that said these are a finescale wheel profile and require better trackwork than the deep flanges you are probally used to.

I could be wrong but I do not believe the issue is with the metal wheels that came with the Ozark kit. I believe the issue is with the soft metal trucks

Have you actually checked the wheel gauge, or are you making the mistake of speculating…?
Any pair of wheels on an axle, can be out of gauge…check them…don’t speculate.

Could you post some pictures of the trucks in question? Ozark dosnt seem to show pictures of them on there website (there whole website/online catalog needs updating)
