Saw this and have been corresponding with Zoe, getting one for my Aristo LS Mikado.

Says he’s got the Accucraft Shay under development. I’ll need to check back. That really does sound nice.
Yes it does sound good. I think I will have to check into getting one for My Mike also. Later RJD
I sent in my check with my stock Aristo chuff pipe, they are putting it onto it with silver solder, I can’t do that.
Jerry, thanks for the tip, I just posted a check and ordered one. Nick Jr
Methinks the reason that there is so far no chuff pipe for the three-cylinder Shay is that even with a moderate throttle setting the thing makes an almost continuous chuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff.
It would just be mite louder.
Over here in yUK Milton Engineering are given some consideration to one for this loco - the benefits of fitting one to the two-cylinder version are obvious and well-documented.

I wonder how one would work with my shay I made. It has a Roundhouse boiler, a Mike Chaney two-cylinder oscillator and a SR-24 smokebox. Any ideas TAC?
I should have mine for the Mikado on Monday, can get it in and take it to Marty’s on Friday.
I got my Summerlands Chuffer today, was an easy install. Just used a piece of K&S tubing about 1/4" i.d. Cut a slot across the end and widen it just a bit so it will fit tightly over the nut. It will also slide over the brass chuff pipe. May make a difference whether you have the first or second run of Aristo Mikados, since the second run has the longer metal chimney, that is what I got back after my boiler rebuild of my first generation Mike.

I had tried making one of these in the past, but had not used this thick of brass the end is also capped.

Installed, you see it sticks up quite a ways, I hope there is enough room for a draft, have not tried it out yet, probably won’t till I get to Marty’s on Friday.
Jerry Barnes said:Jerry - I'm pretty certain that Summerlands over here makes a chuffs pipe for most Roundhouse boilers - which one is it? But then again, you have a dealership on your side of the water - NGT Models of Lancing, MI.

I have corresponded with Zoe at NGT, have not brought up the shay yet. Not sure it would be worth the bother, it has oscillating cylinders, was not sure they put out much to make a sound or not. I got the boiler about 15 years ago, do have the SR-24 smoke box, guess that is what matters, the stack I put on it may be too small for their unit also, have to get it out and measure it, but getting ready to go to Marty’s. IF the Mike’s works good, may look into one for the shay.
Jerry, the Shay I was thinking about is either the two or three-cylinder AccuCraft model. The only oscillating Shay model I know is the new Regner model.

Made a new chimney using K&S Brass tubing, gained about 2mm around the chuffer. Hoping to test it today outside, but its pretty cold. Not sure a test on rollers inside will yield good results or not.

Got a good run in and the new chimney did the trick. Better draft, lit right up and ran fine. Video of it here:

You also get a good overall view of my layout. Outer loop is about 135’ and you can hear the chuffer all the way around. Was a pretty dry warm day, so no good plumes.
Sounds great
