Lots of MOW and work trains in High Point this week. The plan right along has been to re-lay the second main line track on the NCDOT main line corridor … it had been single tracked in the 70’s for much of its length. The new corridor will remove a lot of the bottlenecks, and allow more and faster trains in and through the state. Imagine my surprise when I discovered the new main line will carry two foot gauge trains!
Ok, Cale, resume breathing. In the interest of not being Stockhammered for my “April Fools” photo, this is obviously the standard gauge CWR being laid out… Great image though, isn’t it (in idea, not quality! This was taken out the window on the way over a grade crossing in the rain with a cell phone… so it’s not really a Kodak moment. The track to the other side of the crossing actually has the rails moved out onto the tie plates… and a mile past this photo, they’re still laying out ties and tie plates from a work train. But … it’s happening! Matthew (OV)
