National Transcontinental Railroad Day

With all of the national holidays that exist today, it would seem important to recognize the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad on May 10, 1869.

Have our congressmen ever considered making May 10th, National Transcontinental Railroad Day?

Jerry

Jeeezzzzs Jerry, I like the idea, But do we really need to give them yet another reason to take yet another day off from capital hill.

Dave, HEL…heck yes! The less time they spend there, the fewer bad laws they pass.

I second the motion.

I co sponsor this bill! No ones life, liberty or property is safe while the legislature is in session.

My interests in garden railroading go parallel to fact the that my wife and I have been long time supporters of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, History Colorado (Colorado Historical Society), the Colorado Railroad Museum and the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad.

As a parent/grand parent, I would like to see the great American railroad heritage of this country preserved.

This past weekend, we went to Cheyenne Depot Days and were able to tour the Union Pacific steam shop and museum. UP 4014 is in shop (with barely a few inches to share on each side). I really have a large amount of respect for Union Pacific in that the corporation has a DEEP commitment to preserving their heritage.

Dave - is ONE more day really going matter… Nah, probably not!
