📖 Narrow Gauge Downunder End of the Line

The Last Issue: Narrow Gauge Downunder and the Coffee Pot

After 30 years and 100 issues, Narrow Gauge Downunder has published its final edition, joining the growing list of model railway publications to cease operations. Renowned for its careful balance of prototype history and modelling insight, it leaves a quiet but enduring legacy for Australian narrow-gauge enthusiasts.

The centenary issue features the South Australian Railways Steam Motor Coach No. 1, better known as The Coffee Pot— the same railcar in my profile picture. From its 1914 Great Northern Division beginnings to its ongoing heritage runs on the Pichi Richi Railway, it remains a remarkable subject. The article pairs historical photos with modelling guidance, a fitting tribute to both this unique steam motor coach and the magazine that celebrated it.

Losing a publication always sucks. That was a great magazine. I’m dreading the day the Gazette decides to hang it up.
