Name my railroad

Howdy folks
For years, Ive had “Pine Ridge Lumber and Mining Co” as my RR name, but it no longer reflects the feel of what I’m trying to accomplish. I’m going to keep PRLMCO as the company that runs my coal mines, but I need a better railroad name.

Basically, my RR is a 1:20 (more or less) shortline bridge route, roughly Y shaped. It connects to 2 railroads, one at each end of the upper part of the Y, and the tail end of the Y is local industry, mines, etc. Terrain is varied, some mountains, some plains. I’m running small to medium late-era steam, and early diesel. I have one main yard at Burke, 4 tracks and engine facility, in the middle of the Y.

Only some of this RR is built, but thats the plan. Not too many town names yet. Any suggestions?

Bob without knowing town names, rivers, mtns, etc. its a little tough suggesting anything.

You could always just drop the “logging and mining” and use “Pine Ridge Railway” PRR, too close to Pennsy? then “Pine Ridge Railroad” PR RR or “Pine Ridge Transfer” railway, PRT

Bob,

Are you modeling New England? You know, maybe something regional - “Burke Southern” (or whatever direction), “New England Transfer Co.”, or maybe more corporate, like “McCown Industries” or “McCown Transportation System”. I also like a spin off of Victor’s idea of the “Pine Ridge Railway”.

I kinda liked the way “Pine Ridge Transfer” PRT sounded with the 3 letters overlapped and descending. ?

kinda something sorta like this:

If its based arounnd a Y, then it might use the Wyvern in it somewhere.

Cheers

How about “Lone Pine Ridge”?

Since you are from MA, how about the “New Bedford, Plymouth, and Black Rock” RR?

I have been striving valiantly for all this time to resist, but, alas, I have failed.

“Post Falls and Moscow Southern”

Why not combine your interests together? LITTLETON, SUSQUEHANNA & CENTRAL, or LSC. (Perhaps you have a town or location nearby that begins with an “S” that you could use instead of Susquehanna).

AHAHA...now thats good enough that I might just use it! Or at least maybe an interchange partner! Im beginning to like Pine Ridge Railway (PRRY), or something simliar.. Hrm...

The trouble with this thread, is it’s like my work with the Police over here - full of TLA’s - Three Letter Acronyms!!!

I nominate Richard to be the offical name caller… Hmm ! That doesn’t sound right.

How about offical rail road name presenter ? Ahh That sounds better

" What’s in a name ? " Just don’t give it a bad name…

Why, there you have it! The Montague and Capulet RR, with a run through Mercutio.

It’s a good thing he models narrow gauge steam.

If he had a diesel about, it’d likely turn up blue and lettered for “Cownrail” when nobody was looking.

Seriously, as a New Englander, there are so many great place names that could be incorporated into railroads set locally… though for the lumber line in Webster, MA “Chargoggagoggmanchaugagoggcharbunigungimogg” might require an articulated tank locomotive to fit it all on, though it would double as onamatopoetic, don’t you think?

I do like the touch of the sort of thing you’d get from the Leominister, Salem, and Concord … (pronounced “Lemon-stir” …)

Of course maybe if you want Pine Ridge RR, perhaps the Pine Ear Valley RR? (Oh, wait, nevermind… it’s been done.)

Obviously way past my bedtime
