Greg,
fat Tony did a little boasting after the successful Marklin tender bid, but soon stopped releasing press releases about what was supposedly owned by LGBoA. Apart from the recent LSOL press release, all has been very quiet.
Yes or no on the rights to the name are probably moot. Marklin is a well known brand in Europe. They now have the product line. They could just as easily name it Marklin Gross Bahn, or MGB.
If you have the product people want, three initials mean nothing.
Ralph
I think people who collect or live and breathe LGB would not agree Ralph (I do agree with you).
The name LGB must have some value to Marklin, they DID buy them…
Regards, Greg
Tim, Greg,
Do you remember “Phony Tony’s” press release after the 2007 Nürnberg Toy Fair with all those claims? And the rebuttal that Schöntag issued? Welllllll, guess what, eh?
That one was as good as the withdrawal of the LGBoA bid a year ago!
I still wonder how Goede and/or the Banks phrased that, could it have been somewhat along these lines: “Werter Herr Buffington, nach den Vorkommnissen mit der E.P.LEHMANN GmbH & Co. KG brauchen wir zur Beglaubigung Ihrer Zahlungsfähigkeit ganz dringend die notwendigen, unwiderruflichen Unterlagen.” ???
Then it was Ooops time, too late to start another campaign and ask everyone for a dollar, was it? It’s all that stuff that I like to refer to as “having one’s ducks in a row!”
Oh yeah and how did E.P.LEHMANN GmbH & Co. KG phrase that press release/rebuttal?
EPL GmbH & Co. KG said:It's all about timing and details.
Tony Castellano „President of LGB of America“ recently published an official Press Release. E.P.LEHMANN GmbH & Co. KG comment on this Press Release as follows: Contrary to LGB of America's interpretation all US-trademarks and UScopyrights worldwide reverted automatically back to E.P.LEHMANN PATENTWERK OHG upon transferring ownership of LGB of America to G45 on September 1st, 2006. Therefore, E.P.LEHMANN GmbH & Co. KG as the successor in title is the owner of all trademarks and copyrights worldwide. E.P.LEHMANN GmbH & Co. KG is confident to release an amicable statement together with LGB of America regarding the different interpretations within the next days. E.P.LEHMANN GmbH & Co. KG Nürnberg, 16. Februar 2007

Yes, they bought them and will use the name if they have the right. But the value of the tooling, dies and machinery are priceless. To develop such a broad product line would be extremely expensive.
I’m sure they were also able to expand their distribution network with the purchase. Which might benefit their HO and other scales.
I think to a collector, the new products will not be as valued as the old, even with LGB on the box.
And as more of the product is manufactured outside Germany, collector interest in the new product will fall.
The collectors value of the original LGB products will continue to rise, whether Marklin or LGB graces the new box.

A: LGB of America will continue to exist;
Ralph, 100% agreement with everything in your last post.
Jack, I think that statement from LGBoA is semantic bs… it will exist, but in the name of SilverWhatever…
I’ll bet you 5 bucks that in 6 months you will not be able to find an LGBoA web site.
Regards, Greg

A: No, in fact you will see additional products available soon…
When the publicists pose the questions and then answer them, too, it is to be expected that the questions are as fuzzy as the answers. Now if someone would have asked “Will the new Silvergate company negatively affect product availabilityof LGB items?”, what would have been the answer?
Reminds me of that interview that “what’s his name” at Clambake had with the freshly minted president of G45 aka Buffpuff, or for that matter the incisive questions posed at the News conference at NGRC 2008 (OK boys, lob them very gently, this is a minor softball tournament!)

Hi Greg
“Semantics”
3b: the language used (as in advertising or political propaganda) to achieve a desired effect on an audience especially through the use of words with novel or dual meanings.
I see liberal use of the concept on all forums.
Why wait 6 months. As far as I know it will be more like 8-23 days. Lack of a web site doesn’t erase an legal entity.

"Will the new Silvergate company negatively affect product availabilityof LGB items?", what would have been the answer?
Yes Jack, but “Phony Tony” would have given a very long winded reply. Just watch that LySOL video as it is; a lot of ummming and ahhhing.
I don’t watch/read anything!!! having to do with LSOL!
Never was a member over there, my pragmatic attitude: if they have something that is of interest I read or watch. Mind you watching that video is a painful affair, so much uuummming and ahhing!
In that same or similar vein:
Cartoon in the paper the other day: Politician promising that he will work for his constituents “Day, after day, after day”! Punch line “Watch out what happens from the fourth day on!” The illustration to the punch line was a pig at a full trough!
Dear Jack:
DING!
Love, Greg
(anyone can use any internet name they can buy, LGB.com USED to take you to Lesbians, Gays, and Bisexuals site)
(I also notice while Tony owns lgb.com and lgboa.com, silvergate.com has a “hidden” owner)

@ all
if you’re in need of info on LGB items you can also use this link
http://produkte.lgb.de/produkt.nsf/psuchee
that way you don’t have to look at the lgboa or lgbtoytrain connection.
Hans-Joerg Mueller said:Undoubtedly you will go down in the anals of history! And yes I did use spell check? Ding Dongs!

Jack.
Anals (sic) of history indeed.
I assume you mean the annals (with two n’s) of history?
You do continually demonstrate what an “anal” expert you are.
That’s OK Jack, remember what it says on my favourite t-shirt? It’s always a pleasure to see when comprehension starts to work!
Why go the long way round if you can get straight to the database, eh?!? Ahhhhhhhhh I get it, you were trying to prove a point … well redirecting interested people around several corners to the actual info is certainly your style!
BTW I’ve seen pictures of the first cars produced in Györ, Märklin even went to the trouble to modify the molds to reflect the “new situation”.
Jack,
cast your mind back to 2006 when someone was not paying their internet bills and LGBoA ‘hosted’ the LGB website on their own website. Now fast forward to 2008. Is Silvergate going to pick up the tab and pay the internet time for LGBoA to continue hosting the site info? Your refence to anals of time will come back to haunt you, as you are not getting to the ‘bottom’ of the story but simply raising a ‘stink’. Some might even say that it is utter crap! Your turn -
