We have finally broke ground on the new layout. My wife has even agreed to give up a flower bed she has tended to for over 6 years.
will try the picture once more

and now the retaining wall is finished and the rough ground work is almost completed.

Nice Jim.
Like the back hoe toy. That can come in handy.
Very nice spot for a RR Jim.
Getting the wife to sign on is usually the biggest hurdle.
Keep us posted with your progress.

Where we live in yUK a backyard that big is called a ‘county’.
BTW, what’s the name of the big grey wooden things with green frilly tops?

Took me a while to figure that one out. Pretty good!
A layout with a home is always a good thing.
Good start!
If those dafs are like the ones I buried when I built my first outdoor layout… give them a year or so and they’ll pop up through the dirt again… couple feet, no problem, lol
Oh I can just see it now, setting under that nice porch with a cold one watching the trains chug around.

It is looking good Jim: you have acres of space to fill it seems.
The only thing that some of us may wonder is what were the concessions or conditions attached to the loss of a flower bed - especially one lovingly tended over a few years. lol
After 35 years of marriage I guess she still must love me enough to go along with my crazy ideas. The size looks bigger in the picture than it is. The porch is 32 feet long and the leveled off area is a couple feet longer than that and goes out approximately 26 feet.
And yes we have sat on the porch enjoying a cold one, so far just watching the dirt settle.
Congrats on beginning your layout! Looks like you have a good site for it. You could always dig up the daffodil bulbs and transplant them in a different part of the yard.
