My recent Nevada/Mojave trip

I’ve just finished posting the full report on my recent Nevada/Mojave ghost town trip, starting here:

http://www.raydunakin.com/Site/Nevada_Trip_2016_Part_One.html

These are the places I visited on the trip:

Jasper Queen Mine, CA
Corona Mine, CA
Minnietta-Keystone Mine, CA
Lookout Mine, NV
Black Butte Mine, NV
Nevada Rand Mine, NV
Nevada Scheelite Mine, NV
Red Top Mine, NV
Nevada Quicksilver Mine, NV
Pershing Mine, NV
Beacon Hill Mine, NV
Boyer Ranch, NV
Chalk Mountain Mines, NV
Westgate Mill, NV
Ellsworth, NV
Vindicator Mine, NV
Ames Camp, NV
Cloverdale, NV
Goldfield, NV
Gold Point, NV
Minnietta, CA
Lead (aka Hughes) Mine, CA
Lookout City, CA
Ballarat, CA
Goler Canyon and Newman’s Cabin, CA
Lotus Mine, CA

In Goldfield, they now have a vintage train on display. It’s an 0-6-0 tank engine (missing cab and other parts) and two wooden box cars.

In addition to all these historic places, I also saw some wildlife including hawks, antelope, burros, and a Great Basin rattlesnake (got some video of the snake).

Enjoy!

Thank you Ray, thanks to you, I travelled

Ray, I see you upgraded your exploring vehicle. Always look forward to your annual trip.

Thanks, Ray. Great photos and travel log as usual. I really appreciate your dedication to documenting these fading remnants of past glory.

Bob

Thanks guys!

I’m really loving the 4Runner. The old Trooper gave me a lot of good years but was getting too old, and also hard to get parts for anymore. And this year I was finally in a position financially to upgrade to a new vehicle.

A great trip ! I need to visit some of those places myself. Thank you for posting ! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

Great adventure, enjoyed all. Always liked seeing the mines in Colorado and Arizona, never got that close and up front in my travels! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

Years ago, 92 or so the Haz Waste company I worked for hauled 8 loads of water, equipment and several pallets of baking soda to a mine east of Pine on th steep down hill to Death Valley, to neutralize an old rail car tank that had acid in it. The BLM guys said that someone got some burns off the tank car. He went on to say a fence will only keep the burros out and a lock just means there is something worth stealing on the other side of it. I will have to look for some old pictures I took

Ray,

I always enjoy you Nevada excursions, it brings back memories of our trips to NV in the 50’s and early 60’s. I Googled the Dodge Brothers and found some info. Thanks for sharing your adventure.

Very interesting. I assumed the sign on the “box car” structure had something to do with the Dodge Brothers company that made cars. Could still be that, but now there’s the additional possibility that it’s related to those local Dodge Brothers.
