My new model building shop

My wife won. After years of badgering about my comfort couch in our den/office, DW convinced me to ditch the sofa and build me a hobby room–mostly because she was tired of my taking over her kitchen to build models. I shed a tear when the neighbors carted the couch away, but soon after the Closet Maid cabinets began to come together, we both felt better. And with the new daylight CFLs, my shop was lookin’ pretty good.

I’m excited, because now I have room to store all of my hobby tools and various projects, which can rest while I work on something else. BTW, I kept the counter long (8 feet) 'cause I figured I could use the extra room. I might store my styrene strips underneath, but I’m hoping to keep stuff off the floor as that’s when trouble begins. I couldn’t build up against the existing wall unit on the right as I need access to it. BTW, I’ve become an expert at assembling them cabinet kits.

Anyway, that’s how I passed the last three days, during which I also built a small under-the-desk shelf to hold my auxiliary hard drives.

You like?

Old “Sophie” the sofa. Never got much use. In great shape, which my neighbors appreciated

My lair. Maybe I’ll put in a 'fridge stocked with brewskis.

Nice Joe!
I think that’s one reason I haven’t been doing much lately. Every time my wife runs me out of the dinning room, I lose a bunch of stuff.
Congrats on the new work space.

Nope…nope… nope…it will never work…its white…wayy too clean…thats the sign of someone very sick…

Heehee! You put in a fridge well stocked with brew and you’ll need that couch back.

Bart, not to worry. I’m already piling stuff on the countertop and cramming it in the drawers.

Richard, actually, the fridge is in the kitchen just a few feet down the hall. But I know what ya mean about needing that couch after a drinky-poo. Some years ago when we visited Bob Brown during the Bay Area’s large scale convention, I looked at his outdoor layout, his sizeable O-scale indoor one, his shop and his office where he and Irene put out the Gazette. Then I asked him if he drank. “Oh, we have a glass of wine with dinner now and then.” That pretty well explained it all. Because my wife is a fantastic cook (more like a chef), we love our dinner and the wine that accompanies it. Trust me, after one of those repasts, ya wanna really relax. In fact, the only time I get any work done is when we’re dieting and going cold turkey. Then I get manic, gulp iced tea by the pitcher full and work until I drop.
