Thanks again everyone. She is doing well. She had a little bit of a bleed issue with the stint but that has been resolved and they had her up and walking late last night. She will be moved from ICU to a regular room today and likely home tomorrow. So all good news considering.
Best wishes to your mom for a speedy recovery.
-Kevin.
Great to hear she is recovering quickly.
Had the same problem a year ago, Devon… Heart attack, 2 stents, cardiac rehab, following the cardiologist’s orders and I’m still here… (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)
Hope all goes as well with your Mom… (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)
Glad to hear she is doing well.
I’ve had the camera run up into my heart and luckily I didn’t need a stent. Not bad, but still, it is no picnic.
Certainly a far cry from my father’s several open heart surgerys where they replaced two of the valves with pig valves and afterwards his heart would “tick” like a clock. (Heart problems run in the family.)
Devon, sure am glad to hear she is doing better.
Glad to hear they caught things in time. She’s lucky to have a good son looking after her.
OK so here is a a most hilarious update to this whole thing. So mom got discharged today. On the way home they stopped at Walmart to get her meds. Mom is in a night gown, robe, and slippers and decides to wait in the car for obvious reasons. Dad runs in and after a few minutes my mom gets a phone call from my dad and says if you see an ambulance its for me. He went to the bathroom and while doing the number two got a gushing nose bleed that he could not control and got blood everywhere. My mom asked dad if she needed to come in and he said no that he finally go it controlled enough to finish his business and was waiting for the ambulance.
Well what is my mom’s only thought. . . she was glad she didn’t have to go in and end up with her picture taken and end up on “People of Walmart.” Got to love that woman. Dad is fine, its family thing. His dad had bad nose blood vessels, I have it, and my kids have it. So all is well but my parents can’t do anything normal or without drama.
On a serious note thank you everyone for your support. It getting to that point where the kids have to worry about the parents. No one likes those calls. But thanks for the support and prayers. It means a lot.
That is a funny story Devon! It reminds me of the time when I went to the ER to get my nose bleed stopped at 2 am after about 12 hours of off and on bleeding. The Dr. cauterized my nose and I haven’t had a problem since.
I’m glad that both Mom & Dad are on the mend.
While I was at sea, one of my guys came to sickbay after hours with an intractable nosebleed. Looking inside his nose with the scope, I saw that the bleed was coming from the usual place, where the blood vessels come near the surface of the inside of the nose, called Koplick’s Plexus. You wanted to learn something today, didn’t you?
Anyway, we use a 6 inch wooden stick with some silver nitrate on the end to cauterize the bleed. Just as I got the bleed stopped, the silver nitrate fell off the stick and dropped down into the dark recesses of the nose. I thought, “This is not going to end well,” as the silver nitrate burned its way into the brain. But, there was no reaction. He got off the table, said, “Thanks, Doc,” and went back to work.
Some days its better to be lucky than smart.
Well that’s a little alarming Steve
Devon, why? It wasn’t your nose. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Well that true
Devon,
Haven’t been on for awhile. Glad to hear your Mom is doing good!.. Still sending out Thoughts and Prayers… Travis
Well Folks the drama continues
My Dad’s nose bleed was worse than we thought. He had to go to ER last night. Not sure the status but they couldn’t get I stopped their either. Probably going to have to get it cauterized I would imagine.
Well the drama continues. Mom is back in the hospital again this time to stay. She took a turn for the worse though she did not have a heart attack again she was having pain. The Docs did not like what they were seeing so they admitted her and moved her surgery to Tuesday instead of six weeks from now. They were going to do some fancy thing were a single bypass would take care of all three blockages but now they are doing a traditional triple bypass. To make matters worse they don’t think the stent is working very well and my decide on the fly to by pass that one as well making it a Quad. They are actually having to give her medication (nitro I think) to stop heart attacks before they really start. She is in great spirits and is secure in her faith and is not sweating the outcome whatever that maybe. But dad is a train wreck (there I kept it train related); the realization that his plan to die first may not materialize has him very upset though he is being stoic and trying not to let it show, we kids see it in his face. Not to mention he is still recovering from three straight days of nose bleeds, a three day power outage, and taking care of my handicap aunt. Finally we the kids were able to start relieving some of that pressure from him (finally were made aware, he doesn’t ask for help).
So guys it is not really a happy time around the Sinsley family but we are a thankful family and one that is close and we all live very near to one another so we are survivors and have support. Tough times and as before appreciate my extended train family for their prayers, and supportive kind words.
Wow, had hoped things were continuing to improve, just take a little longer now Devon. Hang in there, amazing what they can do these days.
Devon,
I’m very sorry to hear that mom isn’t doing well. But Jerry has it right. They can do amazing things in the OR nowadays. As the British say “Keep a stiff upper lip”. Better times are ahead!
As before more Prayers and positive thoughts for you and yours.
