Large Scale Central

My challenge for 2011

Don’t look to close - me too.

Looking sharp Eddie

Very nice

This morning I was able to finish the shingles on the roof, then I put the windows in and started on the doors. After my eyes were back in focus from the shingles.

Eddie, nice looking station…

Today I was able to put on the molding around the doors and start on the chimney. I am starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel and it is not a on rushing freight train.

She’s looking good Eddie.

For my project I was looking through Ghost Depots and found a picture of the depot in Salina, Utah. I was not very lucky on finding too much about it, so I took my dimension off from one I felt was kind of similar. I was able to talk with a few of the local folk there that remembered the old depot. From these sources I was told it was quite fancy with gingerbread trim. One eldery lady told me it was the fanciest building in town.So after looking at photo’s of other train stations, I begun what I hoped would be a good representation. After I had the frame built and the gingerbread on, I was able to get in touch with the town hall and get a picture of the Depot in 1900. The Union Pacific reached Salina on the 20th of June 1891 and the first train arrived 6 days later. As the railline ended there- it became a shipping point between the surrounding counties. A few years later the rail lines stretched out into other communities and thrived for a time. The flooding of the railroad in Thistle Canyon 1982 - The Union Pacific decided that the rail lines south through that stretch were no longer viable. In the mid 1980’s much of the line was torn out and most of the buildings torn down or sold off. It’s sad that these historical buildings have not been saved. My Costs: The wood was scrap I had Brads- 3.49 Paint - one free bottle and one at $2.49 Glue - used what I had o hand Styrene - 3.79 Bamboo Forks - already had them in my cache Everything else I used- I had in my junk box Total cost - $9.77http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/smokey/_forumfiles/station22.jpg This is the best picture I could find at this time.

Real nice build Eddie

Really like the shingles.

that looks really good!

…grinning…

This is my last post on my challenge. I did the challenge’s last year, so I am not sure what my level is; but I did have fun with my build. My next challenge is a personal one and I will try to build some rolling stock for my railroad. My confidence level is probably a 4 or 5, until I looked at some of the other builds, now I feel a 2 or 3. I enjoyed the challenge and had a great time, and learned some new skills. I guess that is what really counts anyway. I plan on doing some more detailing when I figure out what that may be.

Eddie
I think you have handed most of us are butts.
Your build is great. I would say your confidence should be a 8 to 10.
Glade you had fun because that is what it is all about anyway.
very nice build.

Thank’s for the compliment

Looking forward too seeing it! :)

I agree, great build Eddie!!! Keep building for your RR. The only one you have to please is yourself. Look at me, I’m building some rolling stock that is by no means ‘Fine scale’ but I like them and am happy for the most part how they came out. And I/you can say that we made them from scratch.
