Large Scale Central

My 7/8's layout

We have had our first extended cold snap. The Pecan trees are dropping green leaves like crazy. There is a carpet 2 inches thick over all of the ground. I mulch and then pick up with a grass catcher. Little bit difficult with lots of bag dumping.

Well, I was going to suggest moving the layout to someplace where the leaves don't fall, but thought that might be too much work.
That's what I did with this layout. I plan I using it when the main layout is pummeled with leaves or on cool sunny days. I'll figure out a spot for the outdoor fireplace, too.

Brian, cant wait to see the first run. You have to get that on video for us.

This past summer I had an old Hackberry tree trimmed …I was going to get it cut and thankfully I had the right company come in and do an estimate. He asked why I wanted it cut and I explained my reasons. He suggested trimming it correctly and I went with his recommendations. It went from $2600 to have it cut down at 8’ off the ground to $800 trimming it correctly. I’M SOOO glad I didn’t remove it. Not because of the cost difference but because of the results and advice given by a pro. The real truth is my wife said “NO DAVE” you are not allowed to trim that tree yourself. I’m so whipped! She is a very tolerable lady…trust me…
Steve … go hug a deciduous tree ASAP!

Hello, Why didnt you raise the layout off the ground as much as possible while you had the chance?? A scale like 7/8" look wonderfull at near face level and you dont get those ‘King-Kong’s legs’ photographs when you take pictures in company!

Just my preference, Bill. I like to sit on my butt, have brew, and watch the trains run through a garden. This layout in particular will be used for that purpose. Its small with few trees around or overhead and battery power only so cleaning will be a five minute job. I am setting up some decent landscape lighting for night time running.

Brian,

You build the fire, I’ll bring the brew!

I’m IN!
Now all we need is someone to tell stories by the fire! Can anyone here do that?

I think Steve is well equipped to handle the stories
We can’t have Steve responsible for everything. So, in all fairness, I should bring the beer.

The layout is up and running. Still a bit of work to do like girders for the smaller bridge and building a passenger/freight depot but here are the pics- shots of the entire layout -

Brian, you did a wonderful job, looks neat…

Brian: That came out really nice. How many feet of track is this layout? Now the only problem is what layout to playwith each day. My wife makes fun of me. She says my only stress is deciding what to do each day:play trains, go hiking, go mt biking. or fly fish
Now I cant wait for the video

Brian, You got snow??? We got drizzle. That layout really is nice. Very cool.
Paul

Looks awesome Brian!!! The Tonka fits right in.

It looks great. You sure work fast!
Or I’m working slow =(
Ralph

Thanks guys.

Shawin. I went out and measured it and it came to 112 feet of track in total.

Well, I had a bunch of plants sitting here that needed to go into the ground before winter set in. That gave me the proper incentive.
