My 2012 Nevada trip: Mines, trains and more!

Well, I finally finished getting everything online from my 2012 Nevada trip! You can read about it starting here:

http://www.raydunakin.com/Site/Nevada_Trip_2012_Part_One.html

I had a really great time and saw a lot of amazing things, including many old mines and mining camps, pioneer ranches, a mercury mill, deer, antelope, wild horses, a scorpion that glows blue in UV light, an operating steam train, and a totally unexpected surprise at a stock tank in the middle of nowhere!

In addition to the photos I have some video of the steam train at Ely, NV and brief video tours of some mines, as well as a very short clip of some antelope racing past my Trooper and dashing across the road.

Cloudy skies kept me from seeing the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, but I did get to see quite a few meteors on the last night of my trip.

I also have posted a new video on YouTube, a sort of “mini-documentary” about a female alligator lizard who took up residence in a small cave on our In-ko-pah Railroad. She laid her eggs in the cave and stayed with them until the first egg hatched. You can see me feeding her, see her guarding the eggs, and see the hatchlings as they gradually make their way out into the world:

Enjoy!

Great Site, Ray!
Thanks for the effort in putting it together.
Do you ever come across old grave sites or cemeteries?
You should publish a picture book of your travels.

Thanks John. Yes, I’ve seen many old cemeteries (there’s usually one near most ghost towns and mining camps), and a few individual grave sites. Here’s a sad and lonely child’s grave I saw last year:
