MTH Parts?

Where can I get parts for an MTH loco? I’ve been given this cute little loco to repair. One truck is totally worn out. This is a HIGH MILEAGE loco!

The only way I know it came from MTH is it says so on the bottom. I haven’t yet put power to it to see if it has any other issues, but they’ve worn one wheel flange clean away and didn’t know till they showed it to me that it could be fixed.

This would be the first place I’d check:

Well, if I knew the name of the loco…

That is a MTH VO1000
I have (2) of them, great running locomotives… Not sure how easy it is going to be getting parts from MTH.

“VO1000”

Thanks!

And… It seems no parts are available.

Time to cobble. Pull the wheel/axle assembly and see if anything from another model will work. If not, perhaps an entire motor block assembly. If that won’t work, don’t part it out. I’m sure it can be bashed into some kind of mongrel.

MTH is like other manufacturers, they use the blocks for more than one loco. If you can’t find a wheel set from Gary Raymond or Kadee, or San Val, see how the block was used in other applications. Check the Bay.

did you call parts they do not always answer but leave a massage they will get back to you. that is just my experience.

Might check with Ray Manley, he’s a authorized MTH dealer/repair.

Jerry has referenced as well.

Depending on the parts; MTH is a little protective of their stuff-they want the old part for the new.

I’ve had excellent service and assistance from Rayman.

Ray’s Electric Trainworks - (Fully Authorized MTH Dealer and National Authorized Service Center)

Would any of the USA motor blocks fit ? As John B. suggested cobbling, I was wondering if, say, the brick(s) from an NW-2 would fit? I realize there would be wiring issues, but as a last result, might be an alternative solution.

Pat

I have a NW-2 that was converted to MTH DCS control; however, never had it apart - maybe next summer or late winter since I have worn out motor blocks as well.

Before you put in a fresh wheel set, make sure the truck swivels freely. I’m sure you would but I had to post. Seems like excessive wear?
The coupler can be body mounted with supplied parts, if he’s pulling heavy trains.

I have to ask, what caused that irregular wear?

Prolly running it in a circle one direction only. I have replaced LGB loco wheel sets from Krickets, Cirus O’learys and other places for this reason. (Haven’t lately–They might have quit using the overhead trains.)

Although the pic looks like it just snapped off.

This loco has run MANY miles. Other wheels have grooves about an 8th inch worn into them. I’ll check the above links.

It got that way doing what it’s supposed to do, running.
