Mr. Fred Mills and the Lionel caboose

Fred put the bug in my ear about the Lionel caboose.
So I found one on the Bay for about 20 bucks.

Of course, a complete tear down.

Discard the white “glass” and put in clear windows. Repaint and add my own road name. Kadees. Metal wheels.
I’m pleased with the outcome. She’ll look good behind my ore train.

That’s looking pretty dang sharp, John. Your painting and lettering are great, and the new roof color makes a big difference.

the caboose looks very nice now.

but doesn’t it need some fertilizer?
to grow into the scale the figure is?

Folks;

I recall having to paint the inside walls of my Lionel LS caboose because even with the furnished battery light, the caboose’s body would glow. Don’t think they expected “serious” model railroaders to purchase those cabooses (Well, I’m hardly serious, but anyway).

Regards, David Meashey

The interior light and windows are in the junk box. :grinning:

Naw, that’s a pretty tall dude standing on the porch… :upside_down_face: :grinning:

Quit screwing around with a caboose and get out there and pound them nails back down on the trestle!

You did a nice job with that caboose John.

I’m a fan of caboose with side doors. It’s a shame they only put it on one side but it is still a great little caboose. What were they thinking with those white windows?

I have one that I customized for my RR.

Another endless chore…re -setting nails on trestles. Along with track leveling, re ballasting, yanking weeds and oversized trees…
That’s why I do most of my train running on an inside layout. (not mine–but I wish)

I just gave two of those away. Never liked the door being on one side only.
