Movie with logging

Just watched a 1936 movie titled Come and Get It on Turner Classic Movies (TCM). I don’t know when/if it’ll be shown again but you might check the TCM schedule if interested.

It stars Edward Arnold and the first 10 or 12 minutes shows logging in the snow circa 1930’s with buck saws, axes, etc., in the snow. Hauling logs on a horse drawn sled in the snow too. Also a log run down river using dynamite to blow frozen logs loose, logs rolled into flumes using peaveys and muscle and a bit in the sawmill cutting logs. Rest of the movie was entertaining but not much more logging after the first part.

Worth watching if you’ve never seen film on this type and era of logging.

Richard,

I’ll look that one up.

That reminds me of another good logging movie. It was also a logging movie with Paul Newman and Henry Fondas called “Sometimes A Great Notion”. I think it was also released under another name. Looked up a long list of Paul Newman Movies - I think there may be a couple I haven’t seen. Or, at least, I don’t remember them.
