Mounting doors!

Hello:

I’m building in 1:20 scale (caboose) and am wondering if I should leave door open or make operational?
Hinges / tips and were you got them, or pins and how you did it .
Maybe some new idea’s.

Can a caboose be box car red (primer)

Thanks Sean

Operating doors are always a nice touch, so if you have the time, go for it. Dollhouse hinges work great for operating doors in this scale. They come in a variety of sizes and styles that all work well. Any dollhouse shop will have them, or you can order them online. (Do a search for “dollhouse hinge,” and you’ll find plenty of stores.

Here’s a door on my passenger car. The hinges are attached on the left using small pins (supplied with the hinges), and the door jamb on the right is nothing more than a small bit of shim brass bent into essentially a closed question mark shape ‘?’. The “tail” of the question mark is pinned to the door frame, while the loop is flexible enough to bump out of the way when the door closes. As for color, as the saying goes, “it’s your railroad.” Boxcar red (or a maroon variation thereof) was most certainly used by a number of railroads. Later, K

I have never ordered from this source: http://www.craft-inc.com/products.aspx
but they seem to have a great variety of hinges. I bookmarked the page when
I ran across it to try when I next need hinges.
