Mountain Biking

My other hobby is Mountain Biking. I’ve been riding MTB since 1989, road biking before that. Raced MTB for five years in the early 90’s. My last two years I raced in the Expert Masters class in NORBA (National Off-Road Bicycle Association) and was very successful. Now, at 64, I still ride three to four times a week from 12 to 20 miles with over 2000 ft of climbing per ride. Last year I got a GoPro HD camera that mounts on my bike or helmet. Some of my MTB videos are on YouTube. Click on my website to view. Railroad videos as well. It keeps me in shape.

Go Dan!

So where are the Pictures???

Paul

Check out his website there are videos!

Dan,

Good to read that you’re still at it. I should get back to it after I’m healed, but I’m not quite as crazy as you, not on a MTB in any case.

BTW my sister-outlaw got one of those cams when she was out here … for skiing and kayaking, took two goes since the sales people convinced her to go for the 720p model. I sent her back to get the 1080 version.  Who needs HD in 4:3?

HJ,

The GoPRO Helmet Hero HD is the way to go. I did however find that my old 2006 computer didn’t have the “horsepower” for video editing. I upgraded to a new computer with 6 gigs of RAM and a one terabite hard drive, much better! Working on more HD train videos in the garden. Any of your sisters videos on YouTube?

Dan,

She’s (my sister out-law as opposed to in-law) only had the gizmo for a few weeks. For all I know she hasn’t found out, yet, that you need horsepower to edit (hehehe).
Skiing season is done and I don’t know if kayaking season has started in the wilds of Nova Scotia. But I’m looking forward to some of her footage.
She shoots pretty good stills, so she should get the hang of video. Nothing personal, but I already told her to load to VIMEO. It’s all about the quality!

BTW today’s the day for my Pana HD gizmo, price dropped by $100. Time to get it!

HJ,

Looks like a new TV is in the works, you’ll love HD. Yes I agree Vimeo is way better than YouTube, but, not many viewers gravitate toward it. I guess I have to add photography, still and video, as my other hobby along with MTBing.

Yes Dan, the old family TV dates back to 1990 … still working but a bit long in the tooth.

On additional hobbies, they come and go, the one constant since childhood have been trains. And in between or parallel, distance cycling, skiing, music, distance running, triathlons, XC skiiing, still and video, sketching and doodling, writing, fiddling with the 'puter, dabbling in electronics … under “other hobbies” I usually note “too many to list”.

Oh yeah, to fill out the rest of the time I had a few interesting jobs, too.  Never a dull moment!
