Motorized Trailer from A Hartland Flatcar Kit

Since Ken Brunt posted his neat Railtruck 'bash, I thought I’d post the latest 'bash coming out of the PCSRR shops…

I found this cute little non powered Rail Truck in John Schneider’s Just Plain Folk Booth at the 2011 NGRC in Kansas City… The LED headlights and dog figure were added during the 'bash.

It’s been sitting in the train shed until last Friday when I started a 'bash on it… Building a powered trailer using a Hartland Flat Car Kit, a Hartlland Woody single axle drive, an Aristo Craft REVOLUTION receiver and a 12 volt battery…

This is what it wound up looking like and it runs fantastic… I’m super pleased the way it finished out and how it runs…

Here’s a link to a “How I dood it” youtube video…

The project done and ready to roll…

Alright, I have the MDC speeders as well; This will be a “PAZ” project in the future, thank you Stan. Great little project and an eye-catcher!

Stan that is excellent! I really like that Railcar, it fits that Speeder perfectly.

Those powered MDC Speeders never really worked at all. I have that same HLW drive set-up the same way on the same HLW Mini-car, but mine is track powered, using wheel wipes from a cut up coat hanger no less…

Planning currently to use it (someday) to build an 15-ton Mack,… or something…

Yeah, Vic… I thought of you as I started the 'bash… Thanks for the inspiration…

It would look great on the “Pizza Layout”…

I ran it on Tuesday and got almost 8 hours of run time in the 12 volt LiFE4 battery… And it’s an old battery that I’ve had for a couple of years or more… The LiFE4 formula is quite stable…

That’s pretty clever, though I doubt the steering wheel is doing much…

Ken, its not unusual, rail car converts from Model Ts sometimes kept the wheel because the throttle and spark controls were mounted on the steering wheel

it also gave the driver something to hold on to.

Thanks for sharing nice

Yes, there is a special charger for the LiFE4 batteries… I got it from All-Battery.com. Not sure it that model is still available…

The red EOT is just a 3 volt blinking LED. I used a 1K resistor and powered it off the 12 volt battery and it comes on when I turn the main battery on…

That is a great idea Stan. Love it.

Very nice, Stan. But doesn’t it need some decals?

Trying to find someone, Bruce. :-). :-).

Try dis guy Stan…he don’t do too bad a job.
