We visited a most unique garden railroad today. It ran trains over track just like we all do but there the comparison stopped. The entire "roadbed’ was built from recycled/re-purposed (junk???) Somehow the whole thing seemed to catch the imagination and work as a concept that was both unusual and fascinating.
Anyway a couple pictures so you can see for yourself.
The Kwia Bridge built from brush cut on the property and the “big trestle” built from old lumber scrounged from the property. Just for a little perspective the rail bed is at eye level, about 5’ 6 " above ground.
The, I think, George Washington bridge. This baby is all welded steel and over 50 foot long. The rail bed deck is about 4 foot above ground. The towers are welded together from old bed frames and other “available” material.
The bridge is a work in progress and awaits finishing and attachment to the rest of the railroad. Just as an aside the picnic table at the left is a 4500 pound slab of shale rock up on rail road tie blocks. Shane said it was a little difficult getting it in place.
Another view of the Kwia Bridge, and I don’t remember the source name for the yellow one. Another interesting side note is the 100 plus year old fruit orchard on the hillside in the background.
Anyway we found the place to be quite fascinating
Maybe you not so much.
