Idiots stealing spikes from an active rail line.

would be right to squeeze these thiefs a bit, till they tell, who buys spikes.

Maybe they were starting up a tent city and needed pegs for the corners.

That’s nothin’ …round here they try and steal the copper catenary lines on the NE corridor. No successful attempt’s that I’m aware of yet?

So, they’ll get a free ride back home, tell their relations how great it is here… and be back again in a week (or when the weather warms up).

I volunteer to take them back home, free airplane ride no less, in my C-130 and OPPS I opened the back ramp! Oh well they did get home. And won’t be back either.

No take the cost of just these two illegal aliens into account. Hwo much to arrest and prosecute them?? To incarcerate them? To succesfully deport them? To “fix” there acts of stupidity? You cannot simply re-spike the rails to teh ties I’m geussing so you need to replace the ties as well right? then re-align the tracks? The cost of delayed and slowed trains or re-routed trains? All for a few bucks scrap by a few illegal aliens?

Chas

This is demonstrably an act of terrorsim - sabotaging the rail tracks of a sovereign nation.

String 'em up at the side of the track.

Give me a coupla day’s notice and I’ll come over to haul on the rope myself.

Before this degrades into an illegal alien thread, this kind of stuff goes on all the time, and has been for ever. If someone will buy something, someone else is gonna steal it and sell it to him for beer money.

A couple years ago the commuter rail here noticed that signaling went down on one of their lines, and sent out a repair crew. The crew came across two guys in a truck hauling the cable off the poles. They had cut each end of about a mile of cable near the relay boxes, tied one end to the truck hitch, and were driving down the access road yanking the cable off the poles.

Not terrorism, just idiots.

Yep its been going on for years of stealing from the RRs R of W . Scrap dealers will buy anything no questions asked. Later RJD

Bob, you’ve distilled the entire “illegals” problem to it’s root cause … as long as Americans are willing (and anxious) to hire these people, they will come for the work.

Walt

Walt maybe you might also add that as long as American citizens are unwilling to do the jobs these guys are doing and businesses are unwilling to pay Americans a fair wage to do those jobs, and very willing to pay these guys low wages under the table, the problem will continue.

Sort of like blaming drug dealers for the drug problem by supplying the drug without damming the often very rich and powerfull drug users paying big bucks for the cocaine fueling the huge demand for the product. No one wants to mention that fact.

As long as there is a demand there will be a supply to fill it. No fences will stop that, drug or immigrant-wise. We as a nation are as much of the problem as they are.

Just my 2cents.

BTW there was a story from Germany not too many years ago, where metal theives stole several miles of RAILS off a little used but still active rail line…caught them, Russian mafia types if I remember. So its not just here.

As someone who knows the local Scrap dealer fairly well…they are limited in WHAT they can buy and from WHOM. OF course that’s in NY state. Your mileage may vary.
