Large Scale Central

More rural stuff (no BS)

Another parcel today, the goodies from Boxcar Bruce. Main reason for ordering: the old fashioned mower. Very nicely done, even if the heavy duty horse (between the cow and the mule) is too small for the rest. Harnessed up the Safari mule and all is just fine. The city slicker sitting on the mower will be replaced with a farmer, he’s just trying out the rig for size.

Yep, the horse will be up for sale, should go well with 1:29. BTW I have a few more who will be heading the same way.

Looks more like a mule.
The heavy duty horse is called a draft horse.
You talk like a city slicker.
All kidding aside, they look really good.

Do you have any Roosters?

The horse that comes with the mower is even marked as a Clydesdale , but  it’s a Chinese Clydesdale, they don’t grow up to 18 hands tall. :stuck_out_tongue: :open_mouth:

A Jersey cow is about 1.2m tall, the Clydesdale averages about 1.75m. Yes, the critter harnessed to the mower is definitely a mule, flopping ears and all. PS no hens or roosters, yet. Sheep are the next item on the list. At the ag fair here in the Valley the horses in the chuck wagon and other races are a big attraction. SWMBO has a very healthy respect for horses, wouldn’t want to get close enough for me to take a picture. Go figure!

Wise woman. Horses are dangerous at both ends and slippery in the middle. Slow ones have been the ruin of many imprudent souls.

In that case I won’t tell the stories about volunteering on farms as a kid. Delivering the raw milk to the dairy with a horse drawn 2 wheel cart and all that good stuff.

mower looks like repainted New Ray. (theirs are blue) - comes in a set with a dump rake and two way plow.

The horses (from New Ray) that they supply with them are pretty cheesy, you got a much nicer one. Even if it is a midget. … trying to think. Don’t traditional tinker’s ponies and Halflingers look something like midget Clydesdales?

The mule is absolutely perfect. Looks like I need to go shopping for a couple.

I can remember horse-drawn floats delivering milk from the dairy. Not to mention the village deep in the shires of my youth that had well-used rail loading sidings whence fast milk trains ran to London. There was a convenient road bridge over the line that made a great observation post. Dairy is long gone, of course.

Chris,

Way back when … just about every village had a dairy that produced cheese and sundry other dairy items. But that probably went not long after delivering with horse and cart went.

Mik,

Went to the New Ray site, sure looks like that item from the Amish set, would be interesting to do a side by side.
OTOH since Boxcar Bruce seems to do some of his own castings it is possible he scaled it up. Whichever way it’s the right size to cut the grass on my mountain slopes.

The trouble with horse farming is the view never changes

Not so way back. Forty years ago there were a good number of cheese factories in villages hereabouts; made for a pleasant weekend jaunt. Most of 'em have been Krafted (and/or other corporate entity) out of existence. Of course, artisan cheesemakers are flourishing, especially over in Quebec; some very tasty products, if (understandably) pricey.

The mower we had at the farm had a wheel on the end to keep it level level. It also had an “A” bar that came back fromof the edge to give support.
