More Pix from the Invasion

Chris Lyon has a blog site with all 3 days posted on it:

http://lyonvalleynorthern.blogspot.com/

And Dave McCurdy has picturs from the run at his place:

http://www.rgstrainyard.com/operations.htm

Thanks for the links, Ken.
Pictures are certainly the next best thing to being there.
Maybe some day I won’t have to settle for second best
Ralph

Time to start planning, Ralph!

Great pix. Much thanks to Chris for posting those and to all for hosting a really nice set of events.

Nice reports on the invasion. Thank you

If you click on the pictures on Chris Lyon’s Blog, you will get a full screen image.

Good to know Paul. I went there and thought the pix were a bit small  I will go back again.

And now that I can actually see the details; at McCurdy’s I see lots of posts with electrical boxes on them. Is he set up for DCC ?

Dave is strictly battery power. What you probably saw was a bunch of painted upside down coffee cans that he’s using as Water stops with the location printed on them.

What I saw was this…

Well, that’s John sittin on his ass…

OH…Those are probably used for his power tools when he’s working on the layout.

Tell ya the truth, I never even noticed them when I was there…

Just to be fair…in the fine train that Ron Gibson is operating; there is an LGB baggage car…

Hmm… Seems like too many in one place for power outlets. The one facing us on the left might be a jack of some type or push buttons. The one facing us on the left has what looks to be a black and red DC binding posts behind the semi-transparent weather cover.

There could be DC there, as they have the layout wired for track powered sparkies.
However it was an all battery day.

It was too hot to steam up!
If you wanted to, your steam water was almost 1/2 way to boiling!

That picture you posted with John in it must be from a few years ago. John couldn’t make it to the Invasion this year. (Sick dog) None of the recent pictures from this year show any of those posts. So that’s probably why I don’t remember seeing any. I’m guessing that maybe at one time he thought of using DCC on the layout.

This was on his picture site: You can Run What you Brung. (Battery Power- The Tracks are not wired)

Actually, the picture in question is from 2012.
It is the 2nd picture in the Monday afternoon blog post:
http://lyonvalleynorthern.blogspot.com/2012/07/finger-lakes-late-afternoon-run-what.html

Time stamp in the EXIF information is 2012.07.23 15:17:19

Now to learn how to take pictures that tell a story like Chris Lyon’s does!

The picture in question is from the Finger lakes Live Steamers layout, not Dave McCurdy’s.

Jon’s question was whether Dave McCurdy was running DCC. He doesn’t.

OK - This is my error. I thought the picture was from McCurdy’'s. I’d still like to know what they are, but now I know I can ask Roger - Sorry.

Now I know why David didn’t answer my e-mail about track power.

You had me a bit confused with the picture. When I was on Chris' site the Finger Lakes event wasn't on there yet, and I was wondering where that picture came from which was the reason for the answer I gave you. Still can't help ya much about what they are, but I would assume that you were correct about them.

Jon,

The Gauge #1 track at the FLLS has some air operated turnouts. The switches throw the turnouts. The rest are manual with, I believe, Ten-Mile ground throws.
