More Lac Mégantic developments

You know you’re between a rock and a hard place when

a) you are ordered to pay for part of the clean-up at Lac Mégantic by the Government of Québec

b) the supervisory Canadian Transportation Agency orders you to resume delivering rail cars to the railroad responsible for the mess.

Oh dear!

And now you know the real reason us railroaders are so cynical about what goes on around us.

And its not just canada. Here is one from illinois, they are threatening to extradite railroad execs to their state to put them in jail over a blocked crossing!: http://articles.centralkynews.com/2013-08-14/theinteriorjournal/41411716_1_norfolk-southern-railroad-crossing

And the lists go on and on.

MMA did get an extention to run trains until later this year when another review will be conducted, and another company has already moved into position as a bidder for the line if it does go wheels up. (wheels up is great if you are a plane. VERY bad if you are a train!)

I thought trains ALWAYS had the ROW at crossings?

A quote from that article: “…whatever it takes to fix the problem, it needs to be done.”

So why don’t they just build another crossing so people don’t have to drive to the next county when this one is blocked? If you only have one RR crossing the in entire county, that’s bad planning on the part of the county!

Good customer relations would be: approach Lincoln County with a plan to build an overpass. Cost to be split however many ways (NS, Feds, State, County).

But that is much too simple, I know. The interesting part is: happens every day in Europe; they consider it a safety issue. Except in Europe they do it because the trains travel so fast, not because they are standing around.
