That is a lot for one of those and it still needs paint and detailing. Supply and Demand?
Yesterday I missed out on 2 cars a bachmann gondola and a aristo long modern reefer both with metal wheels. They went unsold in the end where a bid of $1.00 would have won them! Of course shipping was a hefty $30 but still figure that in and $15.50 per car isn’t bad.
Ebay is funny
I can remember when these were practically being given away at San Val, and about the time MDC dropped out of G, for a while these could be had for about $25 on Ebay. Its a real shame MDC didn’t quite get this one right; it looked tiny even at 1/32 scale, couplers mounts too low and the mount hole was so small it could never accommodated another brand like Kadee, because it did have a very very good drive brick. Someone really really wanted this one.
I have one of those that had been on a shelf unbuilt for years. Last summer, with the help and encouragement of Nancy Norris (Garden Rwys Magazine) and Ray Turner of BAGRS, I converted it into a battery powered littl number. Gave it a coat of paint, and it looks pretty good.
It runs on two 9V batteries. No speed, but it’s going to pull my track cleaning car around the layout. Speed is prototypical for a switcher!
I bought a set of MTH UP passenger cars from a shop for $375. A set sold on ebay the other day for $875!
Just saw this today. I’m in stitches.
This is NOT an LGB 2018D! I own one.

What’s worse is the train he’s selling isn’t even in good condition for those toys. The right side rod is bent, the smoke stack is broken, and no tender.
Looks like some New Bright crap. Geeezzz.
and did you notice the only blurry picture is the one with the label in it?
Its either a Scientific Toys or Echo Toys battery engine, and an old one at that, definetely NOT an LGB item, the item has ended with no bids (can’t imaging why not)… its the shear hutzpah of that BIN price that astounds me. It is possible the guy got his items mixed up but ya think he would have noticed the difference loading the pictures? …of course if this is a selling service they likely couldnt tell an LGB from a Scientific from a hole in the ground.
Dear altterrain,
Thank you for your heads up. This train came with the LGB tracks, which were still in the box. I thought they were all from the same manufacturer. I’ll do my research better next time.
Thanks again.

Speaking of hair raising prices, makes me consider parting with mine.
Hoy Vie! Is this REALLY worth the asking price???
Out of quarter and 2 bent wheels/axles. Track could be aluminum, I have a box of straights in LGB aluminum.
$50.00 MAYBE!

Sheesh guys, have you never heard of collectors? If it’s missing in one’s collection that will be a reasonable price. (with tongue very firmly in cheek!!)
Rare - there was an auction of a “rare” O scale kit a couple of weeks ago, “Hard to find” they said.
I got in touch with the kit manufacturer and he had the kit available and in stock at his regular price.
The sun is hard to find if you stick your head down a hole or if you let someone pull a lot of wool over your eyes.

So who cares? There are always people crazy enough to pay whatever just because they absolutely “need” that item in their collection. Not restricted to trains, happens with almost anything that people collect.
Back in the stone age people probably collected “pretty stone” - some still do - and others collected yellow and reddish shiny flakes. Which would prove that some had rocks in their heads or were flaky even back then.
Gee, lemme see, uh, I don’t know, um…I could spend $1,100 (that’s one thousand one hundred smackers) and pay $45 in shipping on this…
or I could give Al out there in California $409 and spend $23.80 on shipping…
…or maybe wait for the boys in Texas at The Favorite Spot to come up with one for $365…
…or I could ask if one of our brethren here on the forum wants to sell one of their 2-6-6-2s to me for $325. (I’m serious; I’ve always wanted one of these even though I’m a little concerned about the Bachmann quality and wish it weren’t 1:20 scale which seems huge to me if you’re not narrow gauge all the way).
All in all, I really miss RIDGE ROAD STATION!
Lets add this to the list …
40# of gravel er ballast ROCKS! I say thats about 3 scoops in a bucket @ the local gravel pit. I pay about $12 a yard for 1/4 -
Go figure!
