More Ebay Madness, $60 for an empty LGB BOX?

I could tell you it aint so, but I would be lying.

Do not forget this seller is selling LGB traction tires fr 16.99 each.

You can get a pack of 10 elsewhere for just a couple dollars more!!!

I have dealt with that eBay seller many, many times (Chris Ford). I believe that he is a LGB dealer in Florida. Chris has helped me on numerous occasions with hard to find items at reasonable prices.

My last Amtrak Genesis phase IV in new condition from Chris (including box) cost me all of $215.00, brand new (still in the box, never removed and purchased as a spare). That was a couple of years ago. Since then I have purchased numerous parts and some rolling stock from him.

He was selling these boxes some years ago for $29.99. He is the only seller I know of who strips new Amtrak Genesis locomotives for parts.

His current prices reflect the market. A phase IV Genesis now for $649.99. I have nothing but praise for his service and friendliness, although would not pay $60 for a box (although no doubt someone may).

Just goes to show you not much in this world is black and whiteā€¦youā€™ve had good experiences with him, Tim, but he also preys on suckers on ebay.

Nick,

Donā€™t you mean youā€™ll sell a LGB box and throw in an extra freebie; a boxcar?

Yes Craig,

But the box and the freebie will fit in the other boxā€¦

Wow, one just sold for 305. I wanted it but she said no more!

Iā€™d better look next time and make sure itā€™s in the box for extra value. Iā€™d prefer it for safer shipping but the sellers usually forget some blocking inside the pkg and the loco gets broken anyways.

Special sale. Rare Bachmann box. Special today includes shipping $25. Also have LGB boxes.

Well, folks, Iā€™m going to go one better, and post a postcard-sized PHOTOGRAPH of an LGB box, and see how many takers I get.

tac, ig, ken the GFT & The Newberry Crater Boys

I wonder how many BTUā€™s there are in an average LGB box. I do know that manyā€™s a cold morning, over the years, the fire in the shop stove has been started with a box or two as part of the kindlingā€¦along with boxes from Aristo, and Bā€™mann.

Collecting has never been my game, and keeping equipment in the boxes, is more damaging to it than itā€™s worth.

I see that there is a drop in the value of some LGB equipment. (Donā€™t be shocked) A crane car that was purchased years ago for around $72, is listed for as little as $25. Nice toy, but no-one seems interested.

ā€¦oh, yesā€¦and that includes the box and its sleeveā€¦it seems.

I have plain cardboard boxes, many sizes, multiple uses, only $20, step right up folks!

Next time we see each other we should trade boxes. Maybe one of us has a priceless one!

OK just remember, having no value whatsoever is also a way of saying ā€œpricelessā€

Fred its supply and demand. Alot of the old guys that bought these in the eighties are getting out and theres so many out there you can get them dirt cheap. Its a testament to the durability of those LGB trains that they still look and work so good 30 years later. Also mid summer is a great time to buy on ebay. I sell a fair amount there and this is buying season. When December rolls around its time to sell again. On the subject of boxes, Ive been to auctions many times and watched empty pre-war lionel boxes sell for over 10k.

Maybe Iā€™ll will them to the kids. Wonder if there will be an inheritance tax?
