More boxcar hacks

Still trying to make a good USRA boxcar out of aristo models. Here’s the latest effort, made out of a stock car kit I picked up at the ECLSTS. Nicholas Smith was selling them for 20 some bucks. I wanted a beat up and worn look. The space between the slats was filled in with bondo and Durham’s “Water Putty.” It was a pretty hard job–it probably would have been easier to just make it from scratch–saw the sides off and make new ones. But it’s not too bad. Just waiting on the decals from Stan Cedarleaf. That Aristo door latch is really preposterous.

I also picked up an unlettered steel boxcar, so I can make a Reading boxcar that’s not that nasty period-incorrect yellow and green!

Don’t really know the older rolling stock but I will agree on the Reading car comment as it never really looked right to me.

Nice work Mike.
Sorry I missed you at York.

Ralph, sorry I missed you. I had a short morning there on Friday. How did you like Strasburg?

Strasburg was fun. Took over 100 photos. Got some shots of the motorcar they were running.

Nice work, Mike! I like the way the wood walls came out. I’ve cut out stock car slats, but never filled them in. Neat idea.
