Mom Always Said I'd go Blind

So I guess its time to stop!

After 36 trips around the sun, It was suggested that I REALLY needed to go in for a baseline eye exam…the last time was prolly when I joined the army back in '89…

So not only do I SUDDENLY need glasses, I have to have BIFOCALS!

I blame my mother…she commented last week how I was the only one in the family that didn’t require corrective lenses…

Seriously though…I didn’t realize how bad it was…til I was shown how much better it could be! Now that its been pointed out, I realize I DO have headaches alot, specially at work…and that I don’t read as much as I used to, and I squint alot when trying to focus…

Swallow the Pride! Get an Eye Exam!!!

And then tri focals , thank goodness for large scale trains .

…and there was me thinking it was going to be something highly salacious.

Welcome to the clan. I have had to wear glasses since I was 10. Damaged an eye muscle in a schoolrom accident.
Personally I don’t like blended lenses.
A tip. May not suit you though.
Have the optician locate the Bifocal part as low as possible in the lens. It will stop you bobbing your head to see over the line.

Many years ago, over in Ireland, I was pursuaded to try a set of contact lenses.

That trial lasted just a couple of days - I just could NOT get used to the elastic around the back of the eyeball…

Welcome to the club, I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 14 and bifocals since before they started making blended lenses, which I don’t care for either. While I understand why some folks like contacts I have had glasses stop a whole lot of stuff from hitting my eyes that would have not done them any good including one case of molten metal and feel that for that reason only it’s worth the aggravation to wear them. Unlike Tony I usually ask for the largest area of bifocal so that I don’t end up with a krink in my neck when reading although a set of reading glasses is even better especially for the computer.

Haha! 4 eyes! …just kidding!

Just make sure you dont get anyof the cheap geek-glasses most optomitrists stock and insurance plans will only cover, get good quality glasses in a style that YOU like, otherwise you’ll hate’em and never wear them.

I’ve been wearing glasses since college, got my first pair of Oakleys about 10 years ago and I wont wear anything else now, they are the most comfortable I’ve ever had. They are sunglass frames with regular prescription lenses, so they look way cool to boot!, and they are very tough and durable.

Ah, Bart finds out why the rest of us model in large scale… I’m suppose to use trifocals but I did it a little different. I have 2 sets of bifocals. One set is my regular distance/reading glasses and the other has the same reading bifocal with the top lens for computer use. I was lucky. I didn’t start using glasses until I was 40.

I switched from HO to Large Scale when I became lehally blind. I didn’t like blended bifocals either!

For my 30th birthday, my loving wife got me a pair of reading glasses as a gag gift. We all had a good chuckle, especially my dad who has been using them for years. I kept them, not being the kind to throw much out. (Lose things, on the other hand…) Now, a mere 6 years later, they’re an indispensable part of my workshop, especially when doing detail work. Dammit, dad was right again!

Later,
