Modeling tool kits for the beginner and intermediate modeler

I get a catelog from Garrett Wade. This is a great tool catelog, it has all kinds of tools, from gardening to woodworking. There are even modeling tools, which brings me to the point of this post.

There are Tool Kits that contains many of the tools that we probably already have, and one or two that we don’t have in our tool boxes. The Advanced Tool Kit includes the coolest vice. The contents of each kit are listed here. If you want a complete description of each, just highlight the individual product ID number, copy and paste into the search function in the top right corner of the page.

I’ve ordered both.

Ed, there is a good possibility you read this several months ago when this was first posted here, or possibly over on the Aristo forum where you also hang your hat. Steve makes his appearance there too and quite possibly posted the same thing there. Articles quite often get posted on more than one forum if said poster belongs to more than one. I’ll often post the same thread here and over at MLS.

Actually, the real question is “What did you think of the tools, Steve?”

I’m not sure about the kits, but there are a few tools I MIGHT like to have. My problem is buying something that looks attractive but turns out to be poor quality of just not that great of an idea…

Warren I realize what you said Steve has taken exception to a statement I made on another post and indicated that I was upset He may be but I am not.

Ed Trains, Aristo, LSC, and the other Forum we are not allowed to mention Here.

Ed,

Why put somebody down, as you did, just because that somebody has asked a question that you have already answered in your mind several times over? There is nothing to be gained by telling someone not to post their question simply because you are tired of seeing it, except to drive that person away. Remember, at one time, you were a “Newbie” too, though it may have been a long time ago, even when your were in your pre-teens. Back then, you appreciated someone answering your redundant questions.

BTW, I have both sets, now, and I think that I have used all of the tools, and they are far superior to what I have found in my LHS.

I’ve bought a set of cabinet scrapers from

http://www.garrettwade.com/

and found thme to be quite useful. Not in modeling work, but in maintaining the wood on the boat.

I am not trying to put anyone down my problem with most of these is that people start pointing out defects in others coupler when in fact aristo other than being over size will perform as well as KD as for pulling cars
off the track all you have to do is trim the taboff the bottom and they perform as well as KDs I have pulled trains 50 some long up 5% grade I have seem a 100 car train work on the same track
I say talk about your stuff don’ t kick the other product esp if you don’t what you are talking about that,s real imfo. I find some of these forums
very hard to find an answer for all the fussing This is supposed to be fun What works for me maynot work for you But that doesen’t make your thoughs wrong

Steve I feel you are a nice person and I read all most all your posts The Steve that I talked to was in al. or a state in that area He had lost part of a foot and used to work for the RR.
Still your friend I hope
Ed

Ed,

I know the Steve you are speaking of, Steve Quaranto (ACL BIG50AE). I don’t believe we have heard from him in a long time (March of 2006) and fear the worse. I think the last I knew, he was going in the hospital.

Ric, it may not be the worse. It seems I recall seeing his nic on a forum I don’t normally hang out in but don’t recall off hand just where. At the time it caught me by surprise because of his health and absence. I’ll look and see what I can come up with…when I can recall the forum…darn senior moments…
