Modeling In LEGO

I thought I’d take the time to show you my other passion that involves trains, LEGO. Who doesn’t love this toy brand. It a great toy for young kids that stimulates imagination, problem solving and helps eye and hand co-ordination. I’ve been collecting LEGO bricks for about 17 years now and have amassed a large collection which I store mostly in a large bucket and shelf system. It only makes sense that I combine my two favorite hobbies into one and make my own trains. The nice thing about LEGO is if you don’t like the way your creation is turning out, just take it apart and try again.

I have bought many official LEGO train sets and have a lot of track to run these but most of the time I leave the motors off my trains mainly because the motors detract from the appearance and aren’t prototypical to whatever I’m building. so these trains are primarily for display. Here’s my latest model I built based on the locomotives that H.K. Porter company built.

as well as some earlier ones from a few years ago.

Star Wars is my second favorite thing to model in LEGO. This took me about 4 weeks to finish.

More of these models can be seen on my flickr gallery here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/46711946@N07/

Take a trip out to LegoLand and see all kinds of neat stuff you can build with Lego’s…

Quick!!! Somebody block this so Bart can’t see it.

Caleb,
Super job on the locomotives.
I haven’t built anything with Legos in about 40 years.
But it was a blast then and would probably be fun now, too.

Nice work Caleb.

Thanks guys. @Ken, I hear they’re opening up a new LEGOland in Florida near Orlando too I think. I’d love to take a trip to Billund Denmark and visit the headquarters.

Very cool Caleb. I’ve been a big Lego fan since the late 70’s. My youngest built some creations for our indoor railroad. Not up to your standards, but a lot of fun at the time

Neat stuff!

Intriguing models Caleb: a real labour of love.

I thought I did well just to use Lego as a bund wall around a tank!

Caleb, some nicely built locomotives…

One of the highlights of the GTE show has been the Legoland railroad layout in the show… They do some creative and fantasic work…

Ken, you don’t have any pictures of the trains at Legoland?

(I live so close that we can see their firework display, 2 miles)…

Yeah, most people in california are high!

ha ha…

200 foot above sea level… same as legoland… I could walk there…

Greg

Didn’t the lego folks have a layout set up last year at the Big Train Show in the front lobby area?

I was fascinated with everything else…

The Ronald Reagan Library in the Simi Valley in Southern California currently has a train display which includes a Lego layout. I believe the layout is in O scale and was built by a California group. There is also G scale as part of the overall display.
