Modeling an Acrylic and Wood boxcar

Jerry
Thanks for the comments on my castings.

Bruce
That looks super. Now I need to get my refer finished. I got most of the masters made for
the detail parts and will cast them as soon as I able after surgery. I’m going to use the same
siding as you are.
How did you make the roofwalk supports??? I like the way the look.
Rodney

Bob - You can also order parts directly from Aristo, but you will pay full list.

Rodney, For the roof walk supports, I use a method that Gary Buchanan showed me. I take an inch long piece of .100 x .125 and glue some .125 x .125 square strips of .060 under each end.

It’s a lot easier than making an angle.

That looks great. I just bought a can of the ruddy brown a few weeks ago. Great color

I think I’m done. Got some decals from Ric for the Kaskaskia Valley Railway. I had some dry transfers for the numbering.

This has been a very interesting experience. I always hate cutting the basic form for a car and this “kit” alleviates that problem. Now, I just focus on adding the details; to me, this is the fun part. Very enjoyable. Thanks, Andre!

Very cool idea, using Ric’s decals.

Excellent

That turned out excellent. Good work Bruce.

Jon.

Nice job as usual Bruce !

dang thats nice!!!

Thank you, Bruce!

Andre`

Thank you, Bruce. Great looking rolling stock. You make “The Company” proud.

Thanks to all. I think Andrè has helped to redefine scratch building; this is a great place to start.

I’m just glad that Jan approves, Ric. That is a cool looking logo!

The custom work of the logo is Stan Cedarleaf’s. Yes, I think he does nice work.

It turned out very nice. You got me wanting to build some boxcars now,
Thank for the clinic Bruce. Your work is just top notch.

Rodney

With scribed siding unavailable over here in yUK, and the stateside suppliers wanting around $40 shipping for the large sheets that it seems to come in, building one of these fine models is self-defeating for me, even though I enjoy the fun of building. So on the odd occasion that I get to build a box-car my scribed sides are hand-scribed on suitable material, and look reasonable, but not exciting.

As soon as PNG gets moving into production again, I’ll be talking to him, but using many of the great tips from Bruce’s build here to inspire me to greater things!!

What a really great post this has been.

TAC - If you could afford the shipping, Andre` has versions of the kits with laser scribed sides.

Jon - I've got a lay-away plan for the other kidney that I have not yet promised the tax-man...seriously though, I'm planning on building a couple of Phil's kits ere long....
