Model wheel diameter question in S or O scale?

Anyone in this group know of train wheels available in the range of .344" to .550" in diameter? Either including the flange or not including the flange?

I’m in the process of building a MOW crane in 1\29 scale and I need some Hy Rail wheels. HO wheels are way to small, so I’m thinking it will have to be either S or O scale.

Doesn’t Ozark Miniatures make some smaller wheels for stuff like speeder trailers?

I think I may have found a solution. NWSL makes a Proto48 wheel that’s 26". If my math is right this works out to be .541". I think the axle is a 1\8", so it might be a workable solution.

Wonder what the price comparison for NWSL wheels would be with a pack of Kadee’s On30 wheels of 24 inch diameter, right at 1/2 inch at the tread in real world, https://kadee.com/htmbord/page300.htm

Pull the metal wheels off the delrin axle and there ya go.

Oh! Speaking of wheel tread, are they going to be in a use where tread width could be an issue when rolling on rail or are they only for visual detail?

Purely visual, but it would be fun to figure out how to make it run.

The Kadee wheels are nice, but they are ribbed backed, not smoothed back.

The NWSL ones I found come out to 15", and yes they are more pricey than the Kadee ones.

Man, that’s like 1950s model railroading, the good ol days!

Spirit of Mik!

I ordered 4 wheels from NWSL. At $2.50 a piece it didn’t break the bank. I have a feeling the rubber tires for the model will be a lot more expensive!

The quest for rubber tires has been completed. Lego technic tires to the rescue. And for about $10 with shipping, those aren’t going to break the bank either.

I will post some pictures when the build is done, but I’m writing an article for MRH on this, so I don’t want to spoil too much.

Ahh, cool. Sounding like this is going to be quite a project.

A Hi Railer. Cool.

I ordered some O scale wheels. So far, the entire project has been all scrap box supplies other than the Lego, and NWSL wheels. I even managed to find a use for some rejected 3D prints.
