Model Motor Car/Scale Hardware.

I want to give a little shout out to the Model Motor Car/Scale hardware [Link] folks. I had come across them awhile back and there was some discussion about the here. Well Placed my first order with them on Friday. Received my shipment today. Not bad. And to top it off Marvin refunded $5.00 on the order because the shipping was less than paid for so he refunded back some of the money. That’s great customer service.

Although, if I might, If you are going blind, I don’t recommend ordering .8mm nuts and washers. I can hardly see them much less work with them and my fat fingers. But they sure are cool and will be fun to use. Color me crazy but why have molded details when you can have the real thing.

Wow, rivets with a head diameter of 1/64"…!

The rule of thumb that’s been gradually evolving for me is that if I can’t see it, it’s probably enough detail. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Thanks Dev, nice find.

Cliff,

I got quite a laugh when I opened the package and saw the itty bitty nuts and washers. Its gonna take some work to actually use them.

Yeah, roger that. And when you do your dangdest with the tweezers to get the washer and nut on, they still want to get away, off into the carpet, or in some dark corner… (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

But I love putting a model together with real hardware! Lotta fun.

I do too. And up until now 00-90 was the smallest I could find. I did see once some 000-120 but no die set that was reasonable in price. But i do have a cheap tap.and die set in metric that goes down to .7mm. And model motor car has .6 and .8 mm so the smallest I could go and still cut threads is .8mm now that i see what .8mm actually looks like tha5s plenty small enough. If I need smaller I will glue on a piece of hex rod.

Now if only he carried square head bolts that small. He has simulated ones bit they are 1.2mm which is still very small. I think a guy could thread the simulated ones and make real square head bolts. If you so desired. But I think at this point I’ll just glue on a piece of square stock and call it good. That’s getting to be any to small.

Dang sorry for the horrible typing. My vision sucks lately with my head pressure being up. And my fat fingers and my phone dont get along. Bad combination.

Thanks for posting that link, Devon. I have been in need of smaller hex head bolts than what McMaster Carr has in the past and now I know where to get them.

Dan,

My other source is Micro fasteners

But the smallest they have is 00-90 in hex head machine screws. Which is still small but I wanted smaller.

And the clevises from model motor cars drew me to them. Which by the way are very cool. Threaded for 00-90 and are about perfect for brake rigging and other scale cable or tensioning rod applications

If you need smaller than .6mm you are a sick puppy. And the scale hardware co. (Model motor cars) goes that small in bolts washers and nuts.

I saw the clevises too and brake rigging came immediately to mind. I’ll be ordering some of those.

Another Source I like to use for small hardware is https://jimorrisco.com/. I also do not use anything smaller than 00-90 myself as I have broken enough of those tightening with there finger tools. for smaller bolts and square head most of the time I use SLA printed bolts and nuts with a sprue. if I need real scale hardware I will drill and tap square brass stock and solder to threaded rod or threaded stock. same for nuts. 00-90 square is fun to tap, even in a four jaw chuck, but I have done it.
