Large Scale Central

MLS Forums offline

Noticed the last couple of days, looks like the host for the forums (not the main site, just the forums) is having an SSL issue, and since their ssl certs are good until 2020, perhaps they were hacked.

You can go to www.mylargescale.com but you cannot proceed to the forums, storefront.mylargescale.com works, but it’s just where you can pay for advertising with verticalscope (who owns and operates MLS)

I have not tested ftp yet, but that’s only useful to up and download pictures, which I did at the first sign of trouble.

Hmmm …I saw this as well …I thought it was just me…having a gremlin day …

I waited a couple of days to see what’s up… pretty weird…

At least I wasn’t the only one getting that error message.

Jason

Yeah, it is KAPUT. Thought maybe it was because I’m still on Windows 7 (have asked for an upgrade for Christmas), but seems to be widespread. Wonder if any of the techs for the site have noticed as yet.

Glad to find it is not just me.

Regards, David Meashey

It appears to me by the error message there is a disconnect between their main server and their cloud server which has something to do with the SSL certificate. Time will tell what the real story is. By virtue of getting even a disjointed sort of text version of the site, I don’t think it is gone, just lost.

BION, as bad as it is, for me, it is the best that it has been in a long time. For the last several months, my server/scan didn’t even let me/want me to go there because it reported that my data would be unsafe. At least now it goes there before giving the error message so I see progress being made. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)

I checked the ssl certs, so they are not expired, but as Bob said, it appears that their cloud server front end that connects to the actual forum is not happy. I’ll stick with my hacked theory for now, but what makes me nervous is how they deleted a whole bunch of stuff before.

If you are curious, you can validate the SSL certs here: https://www.sslshopper.com/ssl-checker.html#hostname=forums.mylargescale.com

Bob do you get the big screen with error 525? If you don’t you may have an old page cached still in your computer/browser.

Greg

if “they” can hack the pentagon, why shouldn’t they be able to hack simple hobby forums?

i’m just glad, that i never(last 15 years) had my pics stored in forums. and that i recently backed up all my (for me) relevant threads as .txt files on my own PCs and sticks.

Staying on topic and wondering why anyone should care?

LSC was and has been online when no one cared (except me) and a crowd of others about it back in the day in the hood.

Just got this in email;

And going to the site still got:

"Staying on topic and wondering why anyone should care?"

Because there are a lot of good posts there?

A number of good modelers?

A very good live steam forum?

Because it is a fowl free zone?

Because. we need to promote the hobby as opposed to talking it down?

Take your pick, negative Nancy.

MLS was an alternate web site, which had/has a large following, as described by Greg.

It could be said to be populated by people who enjoy a less crude atmosphere; much appreciated by most.

If it is actually lost; it is NOT good for the Large Scale Community.

Competition is always good if it is kept civilized. Possibly the last of the crudeness will disappear from LSC, with the arrival of some fine modellers from MLS.

We should welcome them with open arms, and look forward to their contributions, and friendship.

I’m getting this error when I tried to look at the site. Means nothing to me but Greg will probably understand it.

Error 525 Ray ID: 5398dbc8ded7d69d • 2019-11-22 06:31:06 UTC## SSL handshake failed

Cloudflare is unable to establish an SSL connection to the origin server

It appears that the SSL configuration used is not compatible with Cloudflare. This could happen for a several reasons, including no shared cipher suites.

The MLS forums are back this morning.

The forum appears to be “alive” and accessible.

Yep, here to, glad some good people on there

I remember when “someone” said that he was out of there and would never go back. Something about either him or the forum “self destructing.” (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

was good until that guy was followed over here

Guys…
