Missing Picnickers

When I left for California in June, there was a scene on the railroad that included a couple picnicking and a boy flying a kite…

When I came back from California, the picnickers were mysteriously gone. I looked around pretty thoroughly, and couldn’t find them. They hadn’t blown into the pond, or been covered by the creeping thyme, or otherwise migrate anywhere on the layout. Perhaps when it rained last week they decided to go indoors?

Anyway, the kite flying boy was still there, but without is parents on the nearby blanket. So I had to make a replacement.

The shininess is from the UV resistant coating. I’ll spray with some matte clear later to make it look less plasticy.

Some critter must have become fascinated with them and carried them off.

Up to three years ago I had quite a few small figures and animals scattered around parts of the railroad. There were passengers, station agent, conductor and so forth. Elsewhere there were deer, sheep - for transit in a stock car - and of course bears. As the railroad is theoretically situated in America (bridge line Virginia to Pennsylvania) bears were a must. There is a solitary grizzly and elsewhere a family of them.

But the arrival of a new, young, family dog soon meant that they had to be removed as he took a linking to picking them up and moving them around and in one instance chewing one. Being a chaser of cats and birds also means that signal posts and switch stands have been removed.
