'Missing a beat' sound on my Sierra sound system

Afternoon, all…I was running my Accucraft K27 - fitted with Sierra sound - on a pal’s track last night when I noticed that the chuffs were ‘missing’ beats as it went around the track.
I put the tender unit on a straight piece of track in the steaming bay, but could not replicate the fault. The sensor magnets are as firm as the day they were fitted in place, and the axle is a free as it can be…

The truck is fully sprung and the whole thing follows the very slight vagaries of his track pretty well - electrical continuity is not a problem here.

Any ideas?

Try running it very slow. If you have all your beats there but loose them as speed picks up there is the possibility that your reed switch is a tad too far out from the magnet. Could also be a defective reed switch that’s not as sensitive as it should be.

Thanks for that hint, Warren. I'll give it a try next time I have access to some track..., maybe saturday over at the Glendale Junction Open Day...

Best wishes

If the axle that the magnets are mounted to developed side slop it will miss beats on a left curve but not on a right curve or the other way around. You may have to locate the reed switch closer to the magnets to close this gap. Please keep us up on this one. Nick Jr

Thanks for the tint and hip, Nick. I will this very minute have a look in preparation for the running day on saturday.
