Large Scale Central

Minimum Curve Radius -- Arsitocraft RS-3

The fun part about all this has been listening to him evaluate what he wants, which is modern AMTRAK and mainline freight, against what he has, which is a steam era narrow gauge layout. This has included discussions of cost, needed engineering changes, and visual compromise. He noted early diesels pulling woodside cars, which we have, which prompted him to look at first generation diesels as a way to move towards his goal while applying applying a bit of “O R O R” (Our Railroad. Our Rules).

The RS-3 is beautiful, but his decision making process has drawn him towards the SW1/NW2 options. The plan has been set in motion. Expect an update 25 December…

Considering you are living in Hawai’i, with NO Amtrak or mainline freight, I’m curious who put the ideas in to his head?

Hint: It doesn’t start with an “R” and has nothing to do with chickens.

I’m curious as to whom put narrow gauge steam into dads head? There is no reason why father and son cannot share a hobby on the same railroad!

Awaiting the update to expect?

You have till midnight (whenever that is for you cause I think your about 6hrs behind and I’ll be in bed by then!)

Bump for post count only because if the 20 character limit was 26 I could just post the alphabet.
Yes! I have been into the egg nog.

Update coming later tonight…I promise!

Update:

We opened presents a day early, as O.D. and Y.D. were getting underway Christmas day to travel with my in-laws (Santa did arrive Christmas Eve, of course, as there is always time for some presents before leaving for the airport!). Kid-zilla is at that age where a few meaningful gifts means more than many throw-away gifts, so multiple family members joined together to rehome an NW-2. The little loco had barely cleared the box before it went to the rails…

…where its new engineer proceeded to add railings, air hoses, M.U. hoses, etc.

Kid-zilla put a dab of lubrication on the drivers, then applied power to the rails. Newly-christened Rocky ran smooth as glass, and “he” got the honor of heading the Christmas train for the traditional acceptance photo at the bridge leading to Pu’u’oma’o.

Kid-zilla then understood the difference between 1:24-ish PLAYMOBIL Scale and 1:29/1:32!

Rocky pulled Christmas coaches for most of 24 December.

By yesterday afternoon, however, the new diesel headed a local freight.

I’d say Rocky looks right at home on the Island of No’u’ea!

I should note that a generous Auntie decided to spoil this kid, so the M&K Sugar Co. also got some new motive power. Meet Three Eyes.

Rocky, says Kid-zilla, is “cool” and “runs great,” but Three Eyes’ “siren lights” are hard to beat!

I did ask, @Rooster , if Rocky will head to paint shops. No, it seems, as Kid-zilla has Santa Fe thing…His birthday is in February, however…

Merry Christmas, and Thanks to All for Helping Clan Mueller match an engineer to the right locomotive! The two will serve together for years to come!

The look of joy says you all hit the mark no matter what road name K-Z decides on

Dave,

I only wish you could have been here to share that look! This loco really has him talking like the RR is his to shape and not just to labor upon. That is an unmeasurable win by any standard.

Beautiful locomotive, I think everyone has a liking towards Santa Fe. They were a ground breaking railroad and had critical connections with Amtrak starting in the early 1970s (way back in time). No need to repaint anything just run Rocky and let him bask in all his glory!

This is the Rocky that makes me smile that I get to run and play with from time to time. Hes my fostered grand dog.

Here is a pic of an LGB Amtrack Switcher #72324. I have two of these LGB switcher in Rio Grande paint #2063 which was the most produced model. One is still new in the box and one was repainted to my railroad colors with Rail Pro installed. I will say with Rail Pro installed this little engine rums perfect and it will creep along at almost stop speeds. Here is a pic of the little engine in Amtrack colors, I have not seen this engine in real life as I believe this engine was produced in a limited run, but if you can repaint one of the Rio Grande models, you can probably pick one up on eBay for around $250 used and $350 new.

Where would you get your Amtrak decals? Jeff quit making them after getting a threat letter.

Well, other than that guy……

I thought that BS went out the window when UP lost its case.

Well that guy had Amtrak send a threat letter to both Jeff and Circus City. Jeff freaked out.
