Guys, I need a source for these mini butts. 24-26 wire size. My usual Internet suppliers don’t carry them. I’ve been getting them at RS, but half the time they don’t have any. Any ideas? Thanks,
Nothing there like that, Ken.
At least that I can find.
Are you using these as a splice connector od do you have something that plugs into the connector?
Bill,
A splice connector.
What I do for splices is solder the wires together and insulate them with shrink tubing.
The local Radio Shack has been very good at direct shipping to my house when I’ve run them out of something at the store and asked how long it would be before they got more in. It was a service, I didn’t know they offered. And I ended up having the rest of the items needed at my address within two days. If I remember right, the price was cheaper and no shipping charges.
I finally found three packs at a RS.
This will last me for a bit.
Bill,
These are far faster than soldering. These are so tiny, you simply slip a piece of shrink tube over the connection, heat and you have a nice, tight connection. None of my butts have ever failed using this method.
When I was in training for my low voltage certification, these connectors are what was required for code.
Crimp connectors are great, but, and I’m sure Ric has seen this on boats, you gotta be VERY careful to match wire size to the proper connector. Too big and the wire slips out, too small and you can crush and break the wire.
That said, I buy em in bulk on EBay.

Yes, many times. You can increase the size of wire by doubling over a bared portion of the wire twice as long as what you need and soldering it before sticking it in the butt joint connector.
John:
Glad you found a supply.
Those 22-26Ga. butt splice connectors are a 3M product. They are mostly used on telephone and communication lines, thus aren’t generally available at hardware stores. I can’t locate the 3M part number right now, but know I have it somewhere.
I previously got them though a large 3M distributor, but even they had to special order them. They took a week or so to get.
I’m really surprised the RS has them.
Happy RRing,
Jerry
John,
The butt connectors that you are looking for are available at your local Radio Shack store. I think the part number is 64-3108 or number 64-3073. I am sure a salesperson can steer you in the right direction .
Good luck
