Travis, you really need to hurry up!
as an old fellow firefighter i know, that the last two days before any deadline are, more likely than not, subject to emergency calls…
get moving!

Looking good Travis (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
I need to file for a extension on my Building permit deadline.
No Extension for You!
But,But…Chris. If I don’t get the mill completed .there will be no grains milled for Pete’s Beer and BBQ so he can brew the beer.
Well I for one will give you one of my days to use!!! I need the grain and the bun maker for my pulled pork sammiches is waiting for the railcar of flour. We just cannot have people standing around. Need to talk a buddy into swapping shifts at the firehouse
Is it time to break out the whip
Nice build Travis, I sure hope you can pull this out of the bag in time. That will have a great look when it’s finished. If not you’ll just have to keep posting till it’s done. No sleep and caffeine will be your friend this week.
Well, Didn’t have to build any cars this weekend So…it’s gonna be a long evening of building. I have two style of doors built up and ready to pour a mold to set up over nite. Then tomorrow will pour the resin. I need to find some dye or something for the Alumilite resin to give it some color maybe. So while that is going on I will work on the siding and staining more of the wheel again…Also working on the flume which is not that long. …To be continued…
I have the wheel mostly finished except for a few details and maybe a splash of light green here and there to represent moss. I still need to do something with the round parts like scribe some wood boards or something to help break it up. Will be adding bolt details also . I used some brown, black and some white acrylic paint washed on to get the faded brownish look. the center is painted with a black/antique white acrylic paint wash to look like a cast iron hub. Not sure if it looks ok or not. tried to get the effect of a rust that would eventually run down the spokes but not sure if ya can see it in the pics…Took these out side for the natural lighting to maybe see it better…
Now for my doors. I made two door so I can make several cast of them for future projects too. Here they are.
I used some “borrowed” Legos for my forms. These work really great instead of making boxes out of plexiglass…
Poured and ready to set…
To be continued… Thanks for lookin…
Travis, the doors look good; didn’t know you could pour resin all over them and make more. Doesn’t matter to me…we gave away my children’s old legos long time ago !
As for the wheel…I think you’ve painted/weathered it just right. I don’t know if you’re thinking about additional washes for more weathering and gray, but, just my two cents worth, I like it just the way it is. It’ll look like it belongs on that mill. Very nice.
Thanks John. I am thinking I will leave as it is. The doors I made a RTV mold for them so I can make more later down the road, same with my windows…
You did a good job on the water wheel. Looking forward to seeing it with the building.
Thanks Dan. I haven’t done very well this year, too many things got in the way some necessary and some popped up. Work was a big issue 3 out of the five weekends and I may have a right rotator cuff tear MRI results will tell Thursday this week. I’m sitting here now with ice on my shoulder and haven’t done much. I will keep going until I finish, however will be slowly tho. So this year I have failed at finishing or even close. You guys have done a awesome job on your builds!.
Today not much progress. I got up early with the intention of working to get the water wheel mount and wheel set in place, roof and siding. Well that didn’t happen when I woke up I felt like crap… I did get a few things done last nite.
RTV molds for doors.
Washing in the mortar. I used acrylic marble paint to do this thin it down with water and brushed in. I then wiped away the extra. First time for this technique. I think it would have came out better if I had not spaced the Stone far apart. I am gonna go back over this with some thicker and apply it with a syringe in between the stone work…
Doors and windows in resin. The doors and windows on the bottom row will be used for the mill. I need to cast one more of the door on the right…
Next, I am cutting out a hole for a six pane window that I cut down for this end… Holes drilled for the corners.
So for now since the deadline is hear and obviously I’m not even close to being done. I will leave it here for the time being. Still have a lot to do. I will keep posting progress as I go. I didn’t want to rush this along and it not turn out the way I am hoping it will. Maybe I bit off more than I could chew this time.
You guys raised the bar again this year!. You all have done a fantastic job on your builds…
Good luck with the rotator cuff. Years ago I had to doctors “discussing” if I had torn mine or not. Eventually the one doctor backed down and I never did get the MRI to find out. It took months for the pain to subside, and even now it hurts when the weather suddenly changes.
Never give up Travis! Set a TV tray up in the throne room and just keep building if you have too.
Well for the time being the mill project will be going pretty slow. I found out that I have four tears that showed up on my MRI of my right shoulder… this is gonna be a Crappy Spring…I am right handed also. No wonder I have had a lot of pain while trying to work… I do have the siding cut tho. So when I get it on I will post more pics. Still contemplating how I am gonna do the mount for the wheel axle on the outside of the mill…

model a small run-off channel for the water that comes out of the wheel, and use the sidewall to mount the outer wheel bushing.
at least, that is what they do in real life…
