MIK's Build Challenge 2018

Well I may be able to collect small things, that was the hint, so the challenge will probably be something like some prefab wall panels, or a tree trunk section

CAN WE GET A HINT?

I’ve been stealing napkins from fancy restaurants in preparation!

Oh yeah? Well I stole some (actually I just borrowed them) when we checked out the Bellagio Hotel & Casino when we were in Las Vegas. Very fancy!

p.s. we had a great time in Las Vegas, but it seems to me it’s the kind of place that once is definitely enough. The $13.99 special at the Paradise Cafe nearly killed me I ate so much. Thanks go out to the fellas who suggested the railroad museum and the Hoover Dam. Good stuff. Lots of cement at the dam, like really a lot.

Build Challenge

Hope that you all have been gathering a bit of everything.

I have a bit of a surprise in store for napkin drawers this year.

And that includes everyone, no excuses allowed.

Asking Santa for that mini desktop table saw, might be a good idea about now.

or… move the decimal point one to the right…

I still use my 1940S 12 inch Craftsman to cut stripwood.

It is time to clean off the saw table and the work table! It will be nice to have some heat this year!

Yeah I bought a used Craftsman Contractor grade 14" band saw for $300, a dozen years ago, that has out lived 3 table saws. I just put on a pro-slicer for lumber. A tad slower, but what’s my rush?

My uncle used the Craftsman saw for many years and then passed it on to me.

The only thing I did to it was buy a good miter gauge and fine blade and kept on cutting. Just careful not to find any nails!

I have that saw, bought it several years ago. The only thing I can really say about it is, save your $37.99

I agree with Rick Marty.

I bought mine about 10 years ago during a pause at an ECLSTS.

Would not cut my 1.5mm/12 scale inch square redwood-just lug down.

The chop saw works, but is difficult for me to get identical parts-maybe I need a better jig.

I’d still buy the chop saw.

I have the Micro Mark little fella.

Will cut 1/4 ply if your careful and don’t rush. Other stuff is easier. I have milled a much better RIP fence, and a mini cross cut sled.

Anything bigger then 1/4, gets ripped on my table saw.

18 days now ! Where has the time gone? I have been getting an itch to build something so the challenge is coming just in time. I have a mini chop saw but not a mini table saw. I do have a full size band saw so maybe that will work for whatever Dave has up his sleeve?

Just letting you know that you still have time

to hoard more stuff.....

Well, my new 3D printer hasn't arrived yet,  so you all are off the hook from "Plan B"  and onward with my original scheme.

I am fully ready for this years Challenge.   I really hope you are too!  It will be GREAT!!!

I have a new tool box and a nice carrier for parts boxes. Guess it is time to fill them up!

So for the challenge we are sending you things to make on your new 3D printer?? COOL!!

Anyone with a 3D printer should share!

No guys… It’s a SLA resin printer… No Parts needed…

So Plan “B” just might have to be executed for 2020… lots of possibilities …

Count me in this year…
