Mik's Build Challenge 2017

Quiet please, I’m Channeling Dave.

I need to build bridges, I have 2 car bashes waiting for napkins, besides a hundred feet of ballast to winnow and spread.

This is my get busy time of year and if I can telepath a hint… well, y’know.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

John… If you channeling my brain, you’ll probably get nothing… Thats what I get all the time…

That’s okay, Dave. You couldn’t get bus fare for what’s usually in my brain.

All the better! I’m trying to fill the void! Yet since your adversity, your Firewall has sent every wonderful, creative and personal suggestion back at me …(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)

I have a firewall? Well, that explains a lot!!! I thought that I was just old…

I sure hope us simple fplk can figure this out in 29 days so we have one day to build our challenge!

If our weather gets cold I have to install the wood stove in the workshop!

I may skip this years, my workbench is embargoed, my layout inaccessible, my options very limited. Due to circumstances beyond MY control this has been the worst hobby year for me in years, everything is conspiring to prevent my participation and it’s getting REALLY frustrating.

Vic, Vic, Vic, Don’t give up yet… You don’t even know what we will do for this year.

You just might be surprised!!

Dave

Is there credit for finishing last years?

John, yea, I may finish last years project…someday.

Whatever the challenge is, I’ll need a workbench or work space, and right now I have neither one. Right now we are making changes in the house and in the backyard. If all goes as planned I loose my planned Angry Beaver garden railroad, but gain the Angry Beaver raised platform railroad. Same track plan but elevated like the live steam guys. Which will be a helluva lot nicer on my knees and back and will also be under a sun canopy. Which is nice considering every summer here has been triple digits hot. Anyways missing one challenge might be worth this.

this sounds like a lame excuse. There is a kitchen table, a washing machine, your lap, etc

30 Days to GO!!

Mik's Build Challenge 2018

There is still plenty of time to start the hoarding of all the stuff that you think that you will get away with,  under the free stuff that you have in hand on Jan 1 rule.  Then again maybe this year you won't need anything else.

Remember Rule 1 comes first.  "THIS IS A FUN BUILD AMONGST FRIENDS"

Rule 2:  30 days, $30.00

I’m still trying to get my windows run at work so I can finish last year’s build (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

I haven’t started on last year’s yet!

Maybe we could have a contest sometime, where we all finish our unfinished project from previous challenges.

I hear you Maynard. I’ve mentioned to a few people that I’m getting to the point where I can’t stand not having any corner or any scene on my layout finished. It’s all a work in progress…boy am I tired of that!..and I’m considering skipping the challenge this year and instead challenging myself during that time to finishing at least one damn corner of the layout, maybe the mining district from two years ago, maybe the engine house area from last year’s challenge. Geez, I haven’t even put those great door hinges that Devon sent me on the doors yet. I don’t know. I feel if I could finish just one area, just one, it would give me a standard to take to the next area. Something like that. I don’t know though because the challenge is so much fun and every year I’ve gotten something decent out of it, even if it does get put out on an unfinished area of the layout.

edit: I can’t type this morning.

John P., on my On3 layout, I did vignettes/scenes to higher level of detail to satisfy that urge. Having 3 or 4, made filling in easier… But Please don’t kid your self … It will never be Done, merely another level closer. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)And we wouldn’t have it any other way … I’m a creator and if i keep building, it stays alive!

I feel sorry for all of you. Whatever the challenge is this year it will be a tribute to my late friends Chuck Enlow and Dick Whitney. Both excellent modelers and both wives generously supplied me with much of their modeling supplies. I have an abundance of stuff and a desire to make something very cool in their honor. So I am doubly motivated.
