MIKs 2015 Eric's Rookie build

I love it Eric. Amazing watching how you built this and getting it towork so well. This will be a fun littletrain to run.

I took moose out for a spin today. hauled a flat car with some logs!

I had to do some modifications to improve the action…

the roller for the tread mill was loose on the shaft…I drilled a hole in the roller and through the shaft for a pin which locked them together well!

Then the motor didnt have the power to run the works, so I set it up with a pinion against the big “bull” gear on the left side. seems to work now though the treadmill still catches some times.

That is so cool Thanks Eric. I never get tired of your great stuff.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

What do you feed the moose, to get him to do that?

Oh Moose likes Muffins. With blueberries! I hold one up on a stick to encourage him.

Willie the Wonder Horse likes carrots and they are certainly cheaper than muffins. Moose is spoiled.

Had a blueberry muffin for desert after dinner. I can see why moose works so hard. Looks really good, but better not use him for express shipments. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Don’t feed moose too many muffins or you will have to add more power to that car!

I love moose

I wrote a little article for Marc Horovitz’s New Venture, Automata Magazine about Moose’s Chariot. That gave me the inspiration to do a little modification. I made his head waggle as he charges down the rails.

I had previously replaced the itty-bitty motor with a repurposed R?C servo motor. I opened up the case, pulled out the electronics and wired the motor directly. I also carved off the “Stop” on the plastic main gear so it could rotate continuously. this seems a more robust solution to powering the chariot.

Marc’s magazine will be a PDF publication about mechanical moving figures like Moose. check it out: http://automatamagazine.com/

way off the deep end, thought the moose was great before but this just pushed him over the edge, great work as well as your railroad, Bill
