After debating or not to join this year, I’ve come up with my project.
Weathering!
Taking a USAT 50’ boxcar and making it look something like this.
I’ll remove the roofwalk and cut down the ladder to start. I don’t think I want to cut the sidesill or change the ends.

I dunno, I both pics the 3x5 truckless and the 800 pixels wide one, perhaps those two aren’t secure?

No, I tried inserting pictures from my Google photos instead of my normal method of flikr. I have to make the photos public instead of private.

Some more up close crops of some of the detailing of the weathering I’m going to attempt.
Looks slightly darker, and cleaner so I think this was a repaint area. I also think that’s why the white strip is missing as well. If you look closely the lines look pretty straight.

The curved lettering has some fading and streaking. Maybe replicate this with some color pencils?

Yep, but the ends are completely different, so it would almost be easier to just start from scratch. Reminds me of HO scale 20-30 years ago. Nothing ever matches the prototype!
I remembered late last night to look up the USAT car number in my 1970 ORER to see if it was equipped with a Damage Free loader. If it wasn’t that keeps the door slightly cleaner (and with no rust circle as seen in the other photos).
I was also thinking if I had some decal paper, I could use Burl’s program and print out the ACI tag.
The back channel peer pressure to cut the side sill off is starting to get to me. Since the project is a weathering project, do I get demerits if I cut and fix the side sill before Saturday? Or remove the ladders and roofwalk? I mean, I just said weathering, not kit bashing…
Oh and repaint the roof from green to silver, and the yellow stripe to white…
Technically that isn’t weathering right? It’s just correcting minor flaws.
sounds fair to have the “parts” ready to be used… but I am not the judge, and will cry foul if you get better marks than I do in judging! LOL
