Large Scale Central

MIAP....NOT train related

Since this is “family”…we did an MIAP escort today. There had to have been 300 bikes, mostly Harleys, and several (a bunch) of us in Cages.

These are “Missing In America”. Part of the “Missing In America Project”.

29 sets of remains in urns…found in mortuaries, medical examiner’s offices…Veterans whose remains are unclaimed.

Oldest I think was born 1912. Several were my age.

Had motorcycle escort blocking intersections, 1/2 hour on back road to Tahoma National Cemetery, with full honors…VFW rifle squad…all the grizzled old Vets saluting.

Made one proud to see how far we’ve come from the “welcome” Vietnam Vets got.

Bob…you can delete it…I’ve let folks know.

I had no idea this was going on, and that a group is VERY active in burying these folks with honors at National Cemeteries.

Excuse my ignorance, but where is Tahoma?

Pretty close to Auburn, WA. I have two relatives interned there…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cry.gif)

Tahoma is oh, a good hour SE of Seattle. Near Covington…and if you listen while there (and in clear weather, look down the promenade, which brackets Mount Rainier) you can hear the train horn on the old Northern Pacific Stampede line going over the Cascades from Auburn…and I did.

The National Cemeteries I had visited in SoCal had flat grave markers. These are full upright, like you see for the European Theatre cemeteries.

Sobering.

Tahoma is the original name for Mt Rainier.

In a similar vein, though not related to MIAP, several guys I have served with have agreed to meet up here:

I never knew this was going on either, till my old platoon leader mentioned it during my visit with him last fall.
